I used castor oil when I was ready to deliver...called the doc and asked him his opinion, which was:
If you're ready to deliver, it will work. If not, you will be completely miserable.
I was both. Naturally. ;-D

I showed up for my appointment when the oldest was due in about two weeks. My OB told me to get in a 4WD truck and cruise around over the roughest roads I could find. My ride at the time was an old Toyota LandCruiser Ute (the kind that was sprung like a buckboard) so of course I gave it a whirl.
He told me that on Monday. Daughter arrived on Wednesday, about 10 days early IIRC.
The infallible local cure for pregnancy around here is to go eat eggplant parmigiana at Scalini's Italian Restaurant up on U.S. Hwy 41 in Smyrna. This is such a popular cure that Scalini's posts pics of the 300 or so moms who have given birth within 48 hours of eating the eggplant dish . . . and they offer a free meal if you DON'T deliver within 48 hours!
