Who Would You Choose to Have a Beer With? (past or present)
Beer Addled Brain | 6/12/05 | Pissant

Some of our most cherished memories in life revolve around sharing a drink with loved ones and friends. A fine bottle of Cabernet with your spouse on your anniversary. A 12 year old scotch with your father. Shots of tequila with the girl you've been after for months. Etc, Etc.

There are certainly people in our history and living today, that I would give my left nu.., er little toe, to share a beer and a long-winded conversation with. The following is off the top of my head, and hundreds more could be included:

LIVING:

3. Bob Dylan - my all time favorite enigmatic musician

2. Donald Rumsfeld - A real man amongst girly men

1. Mark Steyn - perhaps the most insightful, wittiest man on the planet

DEAD

3. Ernest Hemmingway - one of the few writers of fiction I love.

2. Ronald Reagan - The hero of our times

1. Ben Franklin - My alltime favorite historical figure.

Who is the Tourist Guy? Rick Steives?

You know...the Tourist Guy. The guy who was on top of the WTC with a plane approaching, he was on the Titanic, the Hindenburg...he gets around.

Well, if the skank ditz isn't available, I would settle for dinner with Francis Bacon.

I'd like to have a beer with my g-g-grandfather. He was at the Battle of the Crater at Petersburg and fought with Lee's army all the way to Appomattox where he lost a leg. The stories he could tell.

Bogie's famous saying... “..the world is two drinks behind.”

By that... I think he meant that most people don't/can't loosen-up without a few drinks. Bogart pretty much spoke what he thought... I don't think he needed booze to that either.

Living -

1. Ambrose Evans-Pritchard - the British investigative reporter who did so much to uncover Clinton's malfesance.

2. P.J. O'Rourke - a famous boozer, it would be fun to get wasted with him on one of his "Blind Drunk" wine tastings.

3. Monica Crowley - not that I want to get her drunk, but I want to buy her a drink.

Dead -

1. Winston Churchill - he would be my all time favourite for a permanent "drinking buddy".

2. Frank Herbert - great science fiction writer...a few beers and talk of "Dune" would be fun.

3. Edward Elgar - famous British composer. I would like to buy him a drink as a thank you for providing the theme to patriotism in this country.

Regards, Ivan
