I was a registered democrat until @ '91( in Md. One almost had to be for local elections). When clinton became the nominee I had enough. Went to DMV the next day and changed party affliation. Had already been voting Republican in national elections.

Does anyone remember the story about the man had a mule, worked hard bought more mules, gov't forced him to give to his neighbor half of what he had...loses incentive to work...etc.
Good story.

To go onto a DUmmie tangent, albeit a good one :-)
What do you think is a better system?
Personally, I hate SS and Medicare, would like it to be gone, to have never happened, but that cannot be dealt with here.
Incentives to save and invest MUST be encouraged. No taxation of interest or dividends or cap gains at all. Perhaps some regular taxation of cap gains if not reinvested within a certain time.
A national sales tax to replace income tax might be good. This captures illegal activity and wealth vs. earned income. HOWEVER, there is way too much incentive for any gov't to continually increase that amount. They might be much more accountable for it since it is readily seen when someone makes a purchase vs. withholding from a paycheck.
In this type of system, accountants are released to a more productive life (I am one of that group, btw), billions of hours in productivity are saved, I believe marriages will flourish, flowers will grow...shall I continue?
Frankly, our system is broken. Politicians are for the most part spineless and incapable of fixing it.
My thesis for today :-)

From where I sit any family bringing in more than about $50,000 a year is RICH and any individual making over about $30,000 is RICH! Well, if you're looking at it from the perspective of someone sitting on the internet in their parents basement smoking weed and sleeping 'til noon, I guess so.

Sadly - The DU is a mix of young idiots and old hippies. So there is an even chance that they are living in their parents basement smoking pot or they have grown kids whose basements they are living in smoking pot.

Oh, you're allowed to live, but only to continue to create wealth for the DUmmies to confiscate and redistribute.
