"If you take a close look at a championship high school or college team, you'll often find that the team has been a team, working together as a team, for the past 4 years."

Or the 3-time Super Bowl Champ New England Patriots.

And I'm not even a fan of them, but respect their accomplishments.

Nice idea in theory... putting it to practice might be difficult.

Take Baseball for example... where would you find a high functioning team from which you would pluck these players?

95% of the minor league teams are made up of players already contracted to a major league team. The independent teams are way down the ladder... Single A at best.

The players on the college teams are subject to the MLB draft, so the "stars" on this team will be split and go to the teams that drafted them.

Turn them loose and watch them perform for you.

The Oakland A's do it that way all the time. The problem is, they can't afford to re-sign their stars at contract renewal time, so they are perpetually "almost good enough". ;)

Just hire Joe Dumars and Larry Brown. Then you'll certainly have a team!

Interesting. You sure your real thesis is politics instead of sports teams? I mean, you wouldn't be trying to slip a double entendre by us, would you?

;-)

"""So here's the plan:"""

How many times have I heard, especially in hockey, that winning is all about team work. Forget talent, they say, it's team work that counts.

What hogwash!

The ONLY reason the New York Rangers, with all of their talent, don't win the Stanley Cup every year is because they are professionals and know that the NHL is business. BIG business.

Guess what would happen if the NY Rangers and a few other overtalented teams showed their metal every time they stepped on the ice?

That's right, over 80% of the teams would have to fold, for lack of interest, and we'd be down to the original five again. Or six.

Those were the days my friend.

The Stankees payed $200 million Dollars to get slapped around like the school yard wimp. Eating Orioles dust while they're still close enough to taste it.

The Stankees don't know how to rebuild, they simply ravage other teams, cashing in on what they have developed by luring them away in cash battles most teams can't match.

By buying up the market instead of developing their own, the Stankees have become like a crack addict with the shakes looking for his next fix before going into withdraws.

Joe Torre can't fix this team because he doesn't know how, he simply fills out lineup cards a prays. Its not the Stankees who should be scared, its all the other teams who want to hold on to what they have achieved before the carpetbagger comes calling.

I'm glad to see the Stankees implode but the sport needs a real salary cap like the NFL, if not for the survival of baseball, then do it for the fans they deserve it.

Congratulations. You have, in large part, just described the Minnesota Twins.
