Actor Russell Crowe Arrested for Assault

NEW YORK (AP) - The actor Russell Crowe was arrested Monday morning for allegedly throwing a telephone at an employee of the Manhattan hotel where he was staying, police said.

Crowe, 41, who plays a boxer in his latest film "Cinderella Man," allegedly threw the phone at the Mercer Hotel employee, striking him in the face, during an argument at around 4:20 a.m., said police spokesman Sgt. Mike Wysokowski.

The Australian movie star was arrested and charged by police with second degree assault, Wysokowski said. Crowe was expected to appear in Manhattan Criminal Court later on Monday.

An employee who answered the phone at the Mercer Hotel in SoHo said he was unaware of the incident.

Crowe won the Academy Award for best actor for "Gladiator" in 2001.

Another "admired" artist who self-destructs by revealing his true self. Why do actors believe that they are indispensable, necessary, or in any way yseful?

The difference is that the likes of Sean Penn hit people because they think they're above everybody and can get away with it. Crowe has always been a brawler, especially when drunk. There are a lot of people in this world whose instinct is to settle disputes with violence, and Crowe is one of them. He's definitely not your average Hollywood type, having been quoted as saying he'd only move to L.A. if:

"Australia and New Zealand were swallowed up by a huge tidal wave, if there was a bubonic plague in Europe, and if the continent of Africa disappeared from some Martian attack."

I'd have pissant's back then

LOL

I want to watch "Cindrella Man" when it comes out on disc. He was trained by a boxer for 5 weeks who went 15 with Ali and other greats. He also killed a guy in the ring.

The boxer's statement at the end of the training is that Russel Crowe now knows how to handle himself in a fight.

How about Robert De Neiro and Adam Sandler?

Hey there Nov3! Yep, I'd imagine Crowe would be a handful even w/out formal boxing training. Who trained him, Ray Mancini?

I wouldn't box with a guy like Crowe in a fight if attacked, however my size 12 Hi-Tecs would leave nice tread marks on his face. I know, tough talk (don't tell sensei), but I can't stand the guy. He's been in some great movies in parts that could have easily been filled by others.

Adam Sandlar can't act like anything but a grown baby.
DeNiro used to be great, but is now a caricature of himself.

How do you know that the hotel worker didn't need to get beaned with a phone? There are some people in this world who really do need a few phone-shaped dents in their skulls.

I wept several times during the movie. The scene where he had to beg for money to get his kids back was one of them.

Ronin was a great film. I like Deniro, but he no longer makes my top fave actor list unless it is the top 20.

I see so few movies, I have no clue who's good now. I'm still stuck on John Wayne & Bogie!

I have no doubt he could be taken down, (not by me) I just found it interesting the training he went through for the film. I don't like Crowe but let's face it he was better than Leo DeCaprio. They actually considered that wimp for the part!!! Hell I could kick his punk @$$!

Oh I know what you mean. I was okay until he went to the relief office and the woman said, "I never thought I would see you here, Jim." I don't think my eyes were dry from that point on. LOL I'm sappy and cry at everything.
