" We may not have had a lot of money, and I only remember one new car--"

We didn't have a car until 1964 - and it was a gift from my Grandfather - his old 1951 Chevy that my uncle Lenny was using until he joined the Marine Corps .

I liked 77 Sunset Strip. Can't type it without singing it...

But I liked Hawanian Eye better.

Imagine a den mother, 11 cub scouts, a little sister, and a daschsnd packed into one of the 1950 bullet nosed Fords (it was the early '60s by then). One day the deck behind the back seat let go and we had to get two cub scouts and the dog out of the trunk....

To get an idea of "how things were" for a particular time, I like to watch mystery or soap opera movies from that period. These have "contemporary" (adjusted for their date) settings. Historical dramas or science fiction or westerns are always period (even if imaginary) pieces. I don't mean plots, I mean dress, cars, street scenes, shops, etc.

50s were the end of innocence, the beginning of moral decline, and worst of all, big government was entrenching itself. Wars undeclared. Beginning of the end.

I miss having house cats, but I don't miss the litter box. I still have outside cats and they are near and dear to me.
There's nothing funnier than a cat.

This little kitty was abandoned. We've had her since she was about 2-3 wks old. She's about 3 months old now. She is frisky and playful.

She is starting to calm down now. She hops up on the chair and tries to push me out so she can have it to herself. She tries to lay on top of the dog. Carries little stuffed animals in her mouth throughout the house.

She is so much fun to watch.

Same with me :-). With movies and tv shows from the 50s, many is the time I find myself ignoring what the actors are doing and saying on screen. NOT because the film/tv show is terrible. I just can't help myself.

I'm always looking over the actors shoulders to glimpse at and admire the contemporary 1950s furnishings, the clothes, the architecture, the interior decorations, the designs, the automobiles, etc., from that era.
