The Hobbit Hole XXII - ...Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
...Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
|
|
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
|
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

Now that works. Being able to enjoy life right up to the time I get sent on, that works for me.

I had an uncle die of a sudden, massive heart attack... came home from a night out dancing with his wife, went into the living room, and keeled over. His wife heard the "thump", came in to see what was wrong, and found him dead on the floor.
On the other hand, I've had three uncles, an aunt, my maternal grandmother, and my father all die horrible lingering deaths from various cancers. So I figure I know which way I'm more likely to go.

Maybe I'll get lucky and get hit by a car?
If it happens when I'm 95, I won't mind so much!

Is it your birthday? I missed that, if so! Happy birthday!
Yesterday was Stephen's birthday. He's 17 already. *snif*

Coyote Waits was good! Read that one. I'm now working my way through the more recent ones...and then plan to go back to the early ones. I haven't read many from before Talking God.

And on another somber note, acid reflux likely contributed to the cancer that killed my mother.
It's one of those things I try not to think about...but I always wonder about the what-ifs. What if she'd gotten more care for that? What if the doctors hadn't more or less dismissed her when she mentioned it? What if she'd been more insistent? I guess I'll always wonder, and I guess it's not useful.
I'll shut up now. But do take care of yourself, Corin!

I'm so tired, I'm falling asleep at the keyboard... I guess that's a sign it's time for bed.
