The Hobbit Hole XXII - ...Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
...Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
|
|
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
|
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

Apparently, the LATS threw a party while were gone. My neighbor told me (when I went to get my mail from her) that it was so loud it shook everything on her walls.
I have GOT to get out of this neighborhood.

Next year you should give up relatives for Lent. Wife and I was talkin' recently. She was lamenting having to measure out Nana's meds all the time. We don't trust Nana to do it (I think I mentioned this).
Not thinking, I made some comment about there being a definite end to that process.
We both started laughing when we realized what that meant. That day is a good ways off.
I've realized something though. Wife's new job is having her travel to Palm Springs over the time Jr. is in Brazil. Works because that's when Luke will be with his favorite aunt (and godmother) in NC.
However it doesn't work cause it means it'll just be me and Nana for a week. We're shipping her off when we go on vacation in August. And we'll be gone next week (same aunt is coming up whilst we're gone). So it's not like I can put her in the kennel or anything...

As far as AK's go it is arguably the best quality you can get. The SIG 550-series is the Swiss battle rifle. It's built on the AK action, but only after Rolex worked on it. It's like the Rolls Royce of AKs. And it shoots 5.56mm NATO.
I don't know if anyone has developed match-grade ammo for the AK, but that would be a start.
A good investment, and one I have on my AK, is a plastic buffer pad at the end of the recoil spring guide. The AK and AKM are designed for fast, violent action to overcome rust, crud, and crappy ammo. But that tends to batter the weapon over time, causing cracks and rivet failures. Of course, the original weapon was intended for a short operational life time, to match that of the troop.

Hope the smart people can help you. I could help. I just don't want to.
Seriesly tho...when we upgraded my b-i-l (who is ~supposed~ to be a computer programmer) helped me archive the old files. We never could access them though.
I've pretty much figgered out that, other than the system he works on at work, he don't know all that much.
