The Hobbit Hole XXII - ...Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

...Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Stretch out before and after!
Does not take long.

Here are a few:

and some here:
http://www.spineuniverse.com/displaygraphic.php/1985/ag_100300sportsmed_stretch1-BB.gif
The top 3 of the second set I would consider the bare minimum. Or just the upper left and upper right. Those are easy to do at work after you get there and make life a lot happier later in the day. The key to stretching is not bouncing of going crazy, just push it till it hurts and hold for 30 seconds. Anything less that 20 or 25 and you get zero results. The tendons and such just snap right back. Since I started this tri training I have been extra diligent with stretching before and after and it has paid off big time.

You know the foam ear plugs we had at shootmoot? The are my cats' favorite toys. Alpha has one now.

Ok! Will try. They look painful. Like the Yoga moves my mom does. But I'll try them next time.

Next month I'm definitely getting some riding shorts. Maybe a better seat, but mine's not too bad.

I put mine up high. Maybe I should experiment.

Tam's favorite toys are pompoms and twist-ties. Halvah...thinks she's too dignified for such things, most of the time.

Of course, when she DOES play, she's rather like a stampeding elephant, and tends to take out small furniture. So maybe she shouldn't be encouraged.

After the initial period where your butt says 'hey! what is this 'riding stuff?' you will probably find you can go the distances you have been without good riding shorts. If you want to start pushing the distances up then they are worth ever penny.
Stretches don't have to be all that painful but before AND after is the key. I am probably telling you stuff you had already heard plenty of times but I found when people reminded me I was less likely to get cocky and then regret it.

A twistties! Alpha loves those too. Beta mostly loves sleeping and eating but is up for a bout of play now and again.

No, it's good to hear it. Need to get the good habits going.

Since I'm doing this for exercise as well as transportation, I hope to up the miles once I'm ok doing two 3.5s in a day. And the ride home is very very hot right now.
