The Hobbit Hole XXII - ...Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe
http://freeper.the-hobbit-hole.net/ ^

Posted on 06/01/2005 7:12:04 PM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

...Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

You don't ask, you don't get!!

Some h/sing families here in the area are doing the Freecycle thing. Sounds very Flylady, doesn't it; blessing someone else with our stuff?

It's been a lot of fun!

I got the kefir grains...and not only that the lady made us kefir drinks and the jedis and I all stood around drinking peach and vanilla kefir! It was fantastic! It's tart, refreshing, slightly carbonated...you can't really tell but suddenly "BURP!" LOL

It multiplies fast...hey, Lil...you want me to send you some when I get some extra? It only takes a tablespoon to make two cups of kefir.

The lady was very nice...we had much in common, she homeschools and likes natural food. I gave her a half dozen fresh eggs for the kefir and she was pretty happy about that.

A tablespoon of live kefir grains sells for $5 not including shipping. She GAVE me 4 tablespoons!

Most excellent.

What qualifications were they looking for?

In other words, should I even try...

I'm sure she was as pleased as punch to get the eggs. Now you know where to get your kefir for the 'price' of 6 eggs!

The thing is with kefir, it doesn't go bad...you just keep taking it out and putting it in fresh milk! Then as it ferments the milk (24 to 36 hours) it grows and you strain it out, divide it up and give it to someone (or sell it...which I don't think I would ever do), or eat it. It tastes like lumpy yogurt.

I'll probably just whir my extra up in a blender with some kefir and peaches.

Fantastic that you got those! I'll take you up on that offer as soon as I get some good milk.

Am currently trying to hang curtains and have discovered the ceiling slopes TWO INCHES from one wall to the other! TWO BLASTED INCHES! Grrrr. And the floor isn't level either. So I hung the curtains level with the floor and will hang the valence level with the ceiling. Hope it works.

Thanks! I called today to find out more about the process at the latest place I applied - this is the best job I've applied for yet, in terms of being exactly what I'm good at and comfortable with. They said they'll be narrowing down applications over the next week to ten days, and then letters will go out to everyone letting people know if they're being considered. Only the top three even get interviewed. In other words, I won't know for probably two weeks if I'm even being considered, since it's done by mail.

It's not great odds...but on the other hand, if I DO get an interview, I know I've got a really good chance. I'll just keep praying...and applying for other jobs, I guess. I know for SURE I'm qualified for this one - not a shadow of a doubt. Now it just remains to be seen how many others are equally qualified.
