The Hobbit Hole XXII - ...Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

...Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Well, from my perspective, we get people coming in here all the time looking to connect... nobody ever tells them how to unconnect. Mostly because we use a VPN and it doesn't interfere with any other settings, but still.

Plus most of them would forget anyway.

I've not had trouble connecting to other wireless settings. And I'm guessing I could've connected thelaptop without changing these settings. He just did what he knew.

Yeah... but you're an informed user. Most people aren't. Most people should be given etch-a-sketchs, they'd never know the difference.

The wireless portions of our network at the college were pretty much wide open...but you couldn't do anything but surf the internet.

It made our life easier since visitors could just connect, though it did mean people had to know someone with a network login if they needed to print...still, it was better than having to configure computers continually. As a college with a HIGH proportion of older students, a lot of people weren't there all the time...just took a class here and there.

*sniff* I miss my job.

Does it have to be upside-down when I hit Ctl-Alt-Del?

Okay, so that worked (thanks).

But the wireless signal is still vey weak. Thoughts?

It's only about 15 ft. away from the router.

Okay, I'll try that tonight. Wife is getting ready to head out of town for an overnight business trip. Doing this by remote (me talking to you and then calling her) isn't working.

I have had the most adventurous day!!! And I suspect it's not over yet!

It all began yesterday, when I signed up for an egroup called "Tulsa FreeCycling". It's where if you have something to give away for free, you just post that you have it. Then if someone wants it, they email you back privately.

And if you want something for free, you can ask for it.

It's all free, though...you aren't allowed to charge for anything you offer.

Well, I'm still looking for live kefir grains, you know...so I asked for some!

Then I felt bad that I never offered anything, so I offered a DVD. Got a hit on it within 60 seconds of posting it...and after discussing it with the person via email, I learned that she literally lives 4 doors down from me in my neighborhood! I've never actually met her but have waved at her when I drove by! Small world!

So then someone posted they'd cleaned out their pantry and had 3 bags of groceries! I can always take groceries, so I asked for them and got them!

Then when I got home from picking up the groceries, I had an email...someone actually has KEFIR GRAINS to share with me! Just a little ways up the street from me!

You killed the thread, though.

How cool! Free is good!

I'm about to head down to Denver. Back late.

Ah man, that sounds like too much fun!
I sure wish some of the stuff I work on would blow up when I was done with it. Except that would be bad, very bad...
