The Hobbit Hole XXII - ...Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
...Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
|
|
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
|
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

Sure... [sip]
Evenin' all! We gots thunders and lightnings here too... Power's going all blinky blinky.
To: g'nad
We get several days of fireworks at least, though no a month.... there's fairly frequent gunfire here, and he just clings to me when he hears it, leaps in my lap if there's fireworks... I'm gonna drug him up good, along with Gidget the Brave, for the fourth weekend.

It's the traffic that would have had me in a panic!
Especially when you're talking about a skittish dog.
But no need to think about what could have happened. He's home and safe and has a big silly grin in that pic.
He prolly thinks it was a merry adventure, the ol' sneak. ;-)

We finally had a mostly rain-free day today! It's been dark and dreary for days.

Phew! A close one for Homer.
Meanwhile....
They had a story on the local news. A guy was cleaning out the basement of his new house and found a canning jar containing a clear liquid with the lid duct-taped on. Oh yeah...the jar was labeled "Nitro." Last they had on it, the bomb squad was driving it verrrry carefully down the road. Guess I'll find out on the late news if it made it to the planned detonation site safely.

Nice... Yah, we had a gorgeous day yesterday... but today has been vey stormsy. Smells like... ozone... :-)
To: ExGeeEye
Hanging in there, just as most folks do.
Lots of stuff going on, but the best part of my day is coming in here and relaxing every night. :-D

Yeesh! Glad you found Homer okay.
I came home, did a bit of weedin'. Was starting to water the garden when I thought it was fixin' to rain. It didn't.
Been near three weeks since we've had a good rain. Lots of clouds. Lots of humidity (although the temps are currently down). But no rain.
To: Ramius
mmmm...ozone....
I'm worried about the saturation levels here tough. I sure hope we dry out before another hurricane appears to threaten. We'd be flooded out in a heartbeat! Yikes!

Oh yeah...the jar was labeled "Nitro." Last they had on it, the bomb squad was driving it verrrry carefully down the road. My first job out of college was working for a consulting engineering firm. I collected waste water samples (somewhat like what Steve has been doing).
We had a 24 hour monitoring at the local arsenal. So I was driving these two lane back country roads all night long collecting my samples.
I found out the next day they were transporting nitro all night long.

Oh yeah...the jar was labeled "Nitro." Wonder what his expression was right after he read that!?

It's like a club room of sorts. Somebody over the way is showing dog pictures, a coupla dwarves and someone who thinks she's Shmi Skywalker are going over the fine points of poultry buttocks hygiene, and I'm in Barcalounger trying to sort out why I was on the road for nine frickin' hours today...
