The Hobbit Hole XXII - ...Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

...Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Heh, I had to wait until I was sure we'd gone to another page before I loaded the thread from work this am. Don't need to give them an(other) excuse to fire me! :o

I'm looking for streaming audio (that the firewall doesn't block) whilst I'm waiting for samples to run Found this.

Not dead yet!

I bought a bike. Paid much more than I ought, but it's a nice bike. I'll let Rosie geek about it for me since she knows what she's talking about.

Hopefully not, but we never know around here.... Actually, they tend to resist firing anyone, they just try to ensure that you get displaced by someone who's been laid off.

However, people have been terminated on the spot for misuse of agency technology--i.e. viewing "inappropriate material" on the internet.

Can't they just put up a firewall?

Oooo, congratulations! What brand is it? Is it a mountain bike or is it a road bike? You should post a picture of it for us!

They have a firewall. It tends to block out the strangest things, though. I'm just glad it doesn't block out Freerepublic (yet!). I think the people who got caught before got in trouble before they'd installed the super-secure firewall.

However, I don't like to take any chances!

I think it's a road bike, that's what I bought it for, but it's got nice big tired and good brakes and stuff. Rosie says it can do trails. She's getting her oil changed but I'm sure she'll give details.

I'll let her get a picture of it, and my sorry carcass on it, later. Right now I'm gonna take it for a spin. Figured out how to get the front tire back on, couldn't quite master the bike lock, and the helmet works, I'll worry about the lock later. I just won't stop anywhere this time.

For a while my company blocked FreeRepublic....just got back on here at work two weeks ago. I used to hang out at Free Dominion to make up for the loss.

LOL, love your tagline!

If they ever pull logs of what websites I visit, I think I'll be toast. Or at least, FR will be-I'm sure they'll block it using the "political activism" excuse...

Glad you were able to get back on here though!

I'd like that!1 Give me a year to get decent at this...

It's going to rain so I just made a quick little tour of the neighborhood, probably a mile or so. Have to get a refresher course from Rosie about the gears. But I navigated a stoplight and a couple road crossings so I think I can handle the commute to school. It's about three and a half miles and I'll probably be dead at the end of it. Whew! My legs have been needing a workout!

Got some more liver. Found it at Albertson's for 1.49 a pound.

Bear, when I was talking about it before...how much did I pay? I think I talked about it on the last thread...

I can't remember if I paid 99 cents for it or 1.99. So I don't know if the Albertson's liver is a good deal.

Mmmm...fried liver and onions!
