The Hobbit Hole XXII - ...Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
...Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
|
|
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
|
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

Dogs don't purr.
Cats don't fetch a ball.
Tribbles don't dismember interlopers.
Need plenty of pets to cover all the bases. Yes, but properly trained children will do all of the above, plus pick out your nursing home.
On the other hand, pets won't stay out 'til 2 a.m. on a schoolnight and wreck your car.

Neither will most properly-raised children.
Shudder. I don't like to think what would have happened if I'd ever come home past, oh, nine o'clock if I hadn't cleared it beforehand.

To me that does not compute... where would I have been that late?
To: TalonDJ
At a friend's watching verbotenAnime ;-)

Although I might have been watching to at a friends house (which we did not do at home). Probably something scandalous like 'Saved by the Bell'.
Now maybe, but not back pre '95.
To: TalonDJ
Oops.. wrote the third sentance before the first two... It makes more sense in that order.
To: TalonDJ
We watched "Star Trek" at home. Occasionally with a rare Roadrunner or "Pinky and the Brain" cartoon.
Of course, the bothers seem to have the tv on all the time, but hey, whatever works for Mom these days. I just wish they'd have more sense than to like most of the cartoon shows they watch.

My two sons are Pinky and The Brain.
This is Calvin, a.k.a. Pinky:

And this is Sam, a.k.a. The Brain:

Calvin is smart, but silly, and happy-go-lucky all the time. His mind is always "out there"...coming up with questions like "Daddy, what if fish had fur?"
Sam, on the other hand, is Ghengis Khan in a five-year-old's body. His favorite game is to drive his enemies before him, and hear the lamentation of their women.
So the following exchange would be perfectly in character for them:
"What're we gonna do tonight, Sam?"
"The same thing we do every night, Calvin...TAKE OVER THE WORLD!"

Shudder. I don't like to think what would have happened if I'd ever come home past, oh, nine o'clock if I hadn't cleared it beforehand. I was known as the "good kid," so, paradoxically, I could get away with murder on the few occasions when I actually wanted to act out.

I think you must have mixed their names up. Every Calvin I've known has been an active, agressive, manly little boy. Like all the Seths I've known.

I might well have got their names scrambled, then, because Calvin is the contemplative one, and Sam is the totally agro little world-beater.

theboy (7), is active, imaginative, and tender hearted... thenewboy (2), is like Conan on steroids and acid...
he's been seen runnin' thru the house, nekkid from the waist down, swingin' a battle axe as big as he is while screamin' at the top of his lungs... not that there's anything wrong with that...
thegirl (9) is brilliant, and just tries to keep enuff distance between her and the two hooligans to read her books, play her music, and be in charge...
