That would be great! I'd love to see you and Clare again... and meet the rest of your family. Hope you can make it!
I've got two loads on the line myself.
My foot looks good...now if I could just remember to take my antibiotics.
Mrsnad
I could live with that...that'd be nifty!
How do I get on this ping list? My wife and I have been Tolkienites for the past quarter-century. Just two nights ago I tried to put myself to sleep by reading Appendix A from The Return of the King.
It didn't work...it was too interesting.
Well, we don't really have a ping list per se, we are now more of a group of friends who chit-chat than a Tolkien-oriented group any more. We go days without Tolkien talk nowadays. We used to have a pretty active ping list for LoTR movie news, but there isn't much of that left now.
But if you have a Tolkien conversation you'd like to start, this would be the place to do it! Welcome!
It brings out the utter geek in me, but I remain addicted to LotR trivia.
Hey, remember...you invited me to do this!
1. Somebody asks a LotR trivia question.
2. You provide the answer, and ask another question.
3. Repeat step 2 above with other peoples' questions.
I'll start, just because. The initial question will be an easy one, so as to get the ball rolling:
What LotR character was Elrond's mother-in-law and Arwen's grandma?
This ought to separate the geeks from the boys...
Easy!
Galadriel.
Name the 13 dwarves in "The Hobbit".
Ok, it's been a long time since we've had a chat view. How 'bout Friday (or Saturday) night? That gives us time to all pick out the movie and the time and all.
Very good. Name the 13 dwarves in "The Hobbit".
Without looking, they were: Fili, Kili, Nori, Ori, Dori, Bifur, Bofur, and Bombur the Fat, Oin and Gloin, Balin and Dwalin, and Thorin Oakenshield.
Now then: What did the elves call Saruman?
Okay, maybe that was a little tough.
It didn't work...it was too interesting.
Try The Silmarillion
Oh! Was I talking out loud? :)
Hmmm... am having trouble on the exact spelling. Something like Curinir, "The Cunning Mind", I do believe.
Who had a dream telling him to come to Rivendell, and what, briefly, were the dream's contents?
But then, if you read the Silmarillion, you'll know the answer to THIS:
What eventually became of the Silmaril that Beren and Luthien took out of the crown of Morgoth?
Who wants to play Tolkien Trivia Tag?
Who had a dream telling him to come to Rivendell, and what, briefly, were the dream's contents?
Boromir had the dream, and it contained a poem that included mention of "Isildur's Bane" and the line "And the Halfling forth shall stand."
Back at you: What tree was the favorite of Quickbeam the Ent?
A dog (Carcharoth) ate it. :)
Hah - not entirely right. Faramir, the cool brother, had the dream over and over, but it wasn't until Boromir finally had it (or said he did) that Denethor agreed to send Boromir.
Quickbeam... er... dunno, he was hasty and he had a long poem about some trees he once knew.
Ohhh, a chat-view would be way fun! Am going to see SWIII on Friday (I think) can we do it Saturday???
If everyone else is available then!
Suzi, forgot to ping you to the potential chatviewage.
"Man, I followed him around for days!"
Okay, I should have asked "What ULTIMATELY became of the Silmaril that Beren and Luthien took from the crown of Morgoth?"
