New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, |
|
|
Still round the corner there may wait |
|
Home is behind, the world ahead, |
High on a hill was a lonely goatherd
Lay ee odl lay ee odl lay hee hoo
Loud was the voice of the lonely goatherd
Lay ee odl lay ee odl-oo
Folks in a town that was quite remote heard
Lay ee odl lay ee odl lay hee hoo
Lusty and clear from the goatherd's throat heard
Lay ee odl lay ee odl-oo
You stumped me. I don't recognize that...
Wha?
That one was not in my family's collection of musicals...
Makes me wanna get an AMC Pacer. :-)
Great...now the few portions of that I know enough to recognize are looping in my head. Fun.
If I were a rich man,
Ya ha deedle deedle, bubba bubba deedle deedle dum.
All day long I'd biddy biddy bum.
If I were a wealthy man.
I wouldn't have to work hard.
Ya ha deedle deedle, bubba bubba deedle deedle dum.
If I were a biddy biddy rich,
Yidle-diddle-didle-didle man.
I'd build a big tall house with rooms by the dozen,
Right in the middle of the town.
A fine tin roof with real wooden floors below.
There would be one long staircase just going up,
And one even longer coming down,
And one more leading nowhere, just for show.
I'd fill my yard with chicks and turkeys and geese and ducks
For the town to see and hear.
And each loud "cheep" and "swaqwk" and "honk" and "quack"
Would land like a trumpet on the ear,
As if to say "Here lives a wealthy man."
That's from "Cabaret."
First stage musical I ever saw. At our community theater.
Yer kiddin'... Queen... Bohemian Rhapsody.
We just watched that!
We had the Broadway soundtrack on record when I was little...and I prefer that version of the songs. Also always irked me that there were songs (well...at least one) missing from the movie. But I guess it was awfully long even as is...they musta decided they couldn't stretch it any further.
g'nad's gonna have a field day with you guys sittin' here singin' show tunes.
I wouldn't go THAT far.
But I did love the "No Stairway To Heaven" sign in that guitar store. :-D
Anyhow....
My dad is just snoring away behind me, so I'd better get offline so I don't bother him with the keys clacking.
I'll see everyone tomorrow!
Dear God!
I do believe you've laid a curse on North America
A curse that we now here rehearse in Philadelphia
A second flood, a simple famine
Plagues of locusts everywhere
Or a cataclysmic earthquake
I'd accept with some despair
But, no, you sent us Congress.
Good God, sir, was that fair?
I say it with humility in Philadelphia
We're your responsibility in Philadephia
If you don't want to see us hanging
From some far-off British hill
If you don't want the voice of independency
Forever still
Then God, sir, get thee to it
For Congress never will
You see, we piddle, twiddle, and resolve
Not one damn thing do we solve
Piddle, twiddle, and resolve
Nothing's ever solved in
Foul, fetid, fuming, foggy, filthy
Philadephia!
I was just thinkin' that...hopefully he's gone to bed...
I don't know that one...
I lived through that era in an alternate universe.
There's no business like show business....
Yeah, but at least I'm rememberin' the ones about the trashy wimmin...
Yes! I know one you didn't!
I just sand the first verse for poor Rosie...
Hah! Love that! Hopefully it was right next to the "No Smoke on the Water!" sign.
Niters Miss Ruthee... :-)
Sit down John! Sit down!
