The Hobbit Hole XXII - ...Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

...Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Leishmaniasis is Latin for "Creeping Crud" by the way. The V.A. didn't tell you that did they?

What's fascinating is that my mom used to use the phrase "creeping crud" when encouraging us to wash up after playing outside... "Wash up or you'll get the creeping crud". Is "creeping crud" commonly around, closer to home than Iraq? Or did she just think it was a fancy way of saying 'dirt'?

I first heard the term used in the military and it referred to almost any skin condition from an ugly rash to a minor blemish, sort of a catch all phrase.

How about jumping out of a plane on a horse?

Bay is much too sensible to participate in that.

Also it doesn't seem like it would be easy to get a horse into a plane.

Flea goop. Miss Cat doesn't like goop in her fur.

Ah...yeah, neither do mine.

Now that I don't have any outdoor animals, I'm hoping I won't have to deal with the stuff.

Thanks OT!

Just doesn't taste the same when you lick the screen though. *grin*

I'd love to go get some, but my mom has already left to the hospital and I can't ask my dad to babysit so I can go get pineapple.

That would be silly.
