DEEP THROAT

Posted on 06/01/2005 6:07:37 PM PDT by Ironmajor

Deep Throat is all over the news, and seems to be being celebrated on such channels as CNN and MSNBC. HIs grandchildren wanted it out because they wanted him to be celebrated as "heroic" for bringing down a presidency; his grand daughter indicated that maybe they could make some money off of the book. Mark Felt, as Associate Director of the FBI became the source of the leak because he was passed over by Nixon for the directorship of the FBI when J. Edgar Hoover died, Nixom naming Patrick Gray to the job instead. Felt was incensed, and betrayed the department and administration he served - breaking the law doing it. He also set the precedent for "unnamed sources" and set the blue print for the liberal media to bring down presidencies and other officials. Felt is a dishonest turncoat. If he disliked Nixon or the administration, he should have done his job and gone to a grand jury, not covertly give information to the Washington Post. He is not a patriot, he deserves to by buried next to Benedict Arnold. The FBI should be expunged of any reference to him, he has betrayed his oath of office to uphold the Constitution and has not set an admirable example of loyalty to that intitution.

Hi Char.

Seth Swirsky...

Promising writer. Concise and to the point with little "prose". I'd like to read a more in depth study of a few of the things he mentioned such as: "That "mistake" only started getting corrected in 1994 with the "Contract with America."

I'd be interested in knowing how much he thinks Newt was directly responsible for TCWA, or if Newt was just a spokesperson delivering a message from a larger body.

Thanks for the post and ping.

Just FYI, I ran across this ( excerpted ) at Powerline:

Deep Epstein, take 2

We are proud to have reminded our friends at Commentary magazine of its publication of Edward Jay Epstein's brilliant July 1974 essay: "Did the press uncover Watergate?" Commentary has now dug the essay out of its digital archives and made it available online in html at the link.

Nothing published this week on the subject comes close to Epstein's essay in illuminating the issues involved in the the case of Deep Throat and the press. The commentary on Deep Throat in the press this week week reeks of the self-glorifying mythology that Epstein meticulously deconstructed as such thirty years ago.

I said earlier this week in "Deep Epstein" when I linked to the version of the essay at Epstein's site that I vaguely recalled Epstein having named Mark Felt as the likely Deep Throat in his Commentary essay.

Todd Foster of the News-Virginian writes today that he had the Deep Throat story three years ago,

Two major points not to be forgotten (please):

1) I seriously doubt that the timing on the release of the information on Felt's identity as "d.t." is anything close to coincidental. 'Newsweak' and the Wa. Post are under the same ownership remember, and in the past three weeks the MSM in general and News weak in specific have been getting pounded in public opinion for their 'kur'an flush' farce, followed immediately by their cover photo of the US flag in a trash can...

They needed something - anything - to push their troubles aside and give not only them but the rest of the MSM a past glory to remember. D.T.'s identity takes them back nostalgically to a time when they were atop a lofty and admired perch in the public eye, bringing down the dishonest, the guilty, and powerful, rather than being seen as colluding with and protecting them.

2) They desperately want to relive a time when they were relevant, when they accomplished something consequential - bringing down a President. They never want the successful Conservatives and Republicans to forget that they "got" Nixon. Why did they go after Nixon? Simple - not because he was dishonest, paranoid, power-crazed etc...

Because it was Nixon who "GOT" one of their own -

Alger Hiss, Soviet spy. I encourage everyone to research this, and discover for themselves just where the left-wing media's hate affair with Richard Milhous Nixon began.

It began when Nixon nailed Hiss inescapably dead to rights.

He was a Federal Law Enforcment agent who took an oath to uphold the law. Leaking a story to the press does not fall under "doing his job". If he new of illegal activity he should have done his duty and had them arrested to stand trial for their actions. If he didnt have the balls to do his duty he should have walked. What he did was spineless and self serving.

***The motive was REVENGE, to defame Nixon - that is why the "story" went to the MEDIA already hostile to Nixon(e.g., Washinton Post) and not through investigating and prosecuting channels.

Nixon was associated with the UnAmerican Activities investigation which outed communists and spies in the State Department, and in particular, communist spy Alger Hess.

Through the era a congressional investigation was quick-time revised by leftists (communists) for the mindless. Facts and truths deceptively inverted so that a legitimate investigation became a "witchhunt" and the exposed villains glorified as "victims." The investigation of William Clinton was another "witchhunt." I have no doubt that the combined abuses of power and other violations covertly made by both first lady Hillary Clinton and president William Clinton weigh so far heavier compared to what transpired in the Nixon administration. The communist defaming/vilifying code word/mantra was "Nixon is a crook." Leftist defamation mantras aired by the willing MEDIA characterized McCarthy as the "evil" instead of focusing on the REAL THREAT of subversive communists dedicated by virtue of their Marxist ideology to overthrow, destroy the founding precepts for governance of the United States. (ala the ACLU, et al)

Leftists always heavily arm themselves with the poison of prescripted rhetoric. How often have we heard the cloned-chorus of vilifying mantras which are false assertions, e.g., "Bush lied..." Of course, false assertions still do not detract from the TRUTH that Clinton committed PERJURY and lied face to face (on TV) to nearly every American. (Bush acted on information generally accepted as valid, and there is no LIE in acting on a reasonable assumption.)

The communists, the ACLU, pseudo-liberals and willing fools, Media and Hollywood leftists, et al, hated Nixon because Nixon successfully prosecuted communist spy Alger Hess, a high official in the State Dept. Be assured, the leftist mandate was to destroy Nixon to vindicate Hess. Alger Hess was a communist spy and Nixon exposed him.

Refer to the writings of both Ronald Radosh and David Horowitz for a truthful and factual history of the times to counter leftist revisionist propaganda persistently aired by the MSM.

Self serving? What did he gain by this, lets go down the list: Fame? NO Popularity? NO Money? NO.... so we can rule out self serving. As far as doing his job by reporting to the correct officials - HIS BOSS, THE LEAD FEDERAL AGENT OF THE FBI, was also in bed with Nixon and the clan. There is very little he could have done other than take the action he did. At the time, the press was still mostly impartial and the WHOLE story would make it out.
