*New* The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Rusty's mane is just so shiny, and lays so flat. Vey pretty!

I've been thinking about this post, and now I'm worrying:) Would you think something could be bothering him if you knew when I turn him out with Harley he runs, bucks, kicks, rears up, and seems to have all the energy in the world???

Like I said this horse frustrates me to no end, because I just don't know. I'm going to try to stick to my plan and give him some time, then take him to the vet.

Well, I had sprayed it with Show Sheen, and just combed it all out. The ShowSheen is probably why it looks so shiny. But he does seem to have very strong hair in his mane and tail. Harley's mane is thin, and his tail doesn't grow as long. Rusty's drags the ground. Rockys mane and tail are really nice too.

I've never noticed that either one of them gets bleached out. Do you use conditioner on your horses manes and tails?

That horse that Tiff is on looks nice. It doesn't seem to have any fly specks, which grays usually have, and spoils them IMO. How old is that horse? Is it a Quarter?

No, I don't use anything on it often.... Bay has a great tail.... just crummy mane :~D He has practically no forelock.

She's Arab. Unpapered, but probably full. She's a wide short little Egyptian... very much like my stallion was.

I don't do it often either. But when I do, I usually really goop a bunch on and leave it for about 10-15 minutes while I wash the rest of their bodies. The when I rinse I don't rinse it out completely. I don't know if that helps, but it makes them feel better for a day or so:)

I like her too. And both her horses are dang bomb proof.

She paid a good amount of money for Cat, the QH... and she got Mia the grey Arab for next to nothing, like $400. Just goes to show that horse pricing and worth depends on who you are buying from, not necessarily the horse. They've both done marvelously for her.

Good for her:)

Well, yawn, it's been along day. I just checked in to see your pictures. I've got to go feed, then I think I'm going to have some ice cream and go to bed:)

We just put the horses to bed too, we're fixin' to have a thunderstorm, we heard the thunder, and the wind is swirlin' around.

And I'm wanting to go to bed too. :~D

Talk to you in the morning!

I just read your post about Rusty and I gotta tell ya, I'm having similar problems with Tuffy. He's acting weird, too, but mostly in the pasture, not ridden. I'm chalking it up to allergies and I have him on Dex right now, hopefully that'll cure the problem.

These horses, I swear. Can't live with 'em, can't live without 'em.

Who are those people you're riding with, Hair? That boy riding backwards and standing up on the horse is a hoot.
