Actually it was the Dictators. They had an album out on Epic in 1974 when the Bruddahs' Ramone formed their band (didn't get an album for a couple more years).

The future members of The Clash (101ers) were at the July 4th, 1976 concert where the Ramones brought rock to England.

If the Clash had not gotten played on MTV (Should I Stay Or Should I Go, Rock The Casbah, Radio Clash) they would probably be largely unknown in the US today.

Meddle is my sign of the 70's, which were just weird for me. I was skydiving at the time and wasting most of life away until '75. Then I discovered Handel and Beethoven.

The Ramones actually let future members of the Clash and the Sex Pistols in to their shows for free, and in the process helped inspire British punk.

Punk may be considered British by many, but without the Ramones, it never would have left New York City.
