Sunless Tanning Top Picks
Dear Dr. Dave and Dr. Dee,
I used to sunbathe every summer, but Im getting older and more wrinkles at age 37, so Ive decided to try a sunless tanning lotion. Do these sunless tans really work and how long will the tan stay? Are some products better than others? If I do decide to sunbathe, will the fake tan help protect me from the sun?
Signed,
Sun Scared
Dear Sun Scared,
As the sun is the number one cause of aging and skin cancer, its a good idea to cut down on the sunbathing. The tan from sunless tanning products will not protect you from the sun and a sunscreen with an SPF of at least 15 is still necessary. The sunless tan will appear instantly or in a couple hours and will last a few days up to a week depending on the product, so reapplication is necessary to maintain the tan.
Be sure to wash your hands thoroughly after applying the self-tanning lotions or your palms will be tan.
A website called SunLess.com recommends these affordable sunless tanning products that are equivalent to drugstore prices instead of buying expensive department brands (www.sunless.com)

If you don't want to look fish belly white this summer here are some self tanning recommendations. Self Tanners work really well now and you don't end up looking like a giant carrot like we did when we used QT in High School.
Looks like John still has a couple of old cases of QT in his basement.
John Kerry...A.K.A..."Pumpkin Man!" :-)
HA! So now you give me the list of desired products.
I heard a recommendation for a Neurtrgena product. So I bought this "Build a Tan" in plastic bottle with a pump in the lid. It was a lotion.
I put it on my legs and thought I'd done a pretty good job of evening out everything.
The next morning I awoke with a orangish brown mark on the back of my heel.
I needed to go out and had planned on wearing capris with some little sling back heels. I used navy blue and a green eye liners and smudged around the spot and made it look like a bruise!
I also have the Neurtrogena Foam, but haven't built up the nerve to use it yet. Especailly after my last experience. It was QT all the way.
I may revert to wearing long pants all summer long to avoid this problem again.
Ping.
I don't have the ping list on my laptop, so I will ping everyone as soon as possible or Betty can ping :)
I have been using L'Oreal Sublime Bronze Towlettes and they work really well.
The key is to exfoliate before you apply and watch out for the elbows, knees, ankles and heels. I am amazed that I have been able to achieve a realistic looking tan.
I've used it for a few years....it's great for legs.
The only spot where I had any problem was the back of my right heel.
I knew all the rules about body prep and followed them closely.
Get a powder bronzer to cover spots you missed. It comes in very handy.
Love it, love it. Never used anything that worked as well or looked as real, no matter how much I spent.
TINA Fey and Amy Poehler co-anchors of "Weekend Update" on "Saturday Night Live" didn't pull any punches at the Robin Hood Foundation gala the other night, performing for the likes of Gwyneth Paltrow, Diane Sawyer, Whoopi Goldberg and Jay-Z. Fey, making fun of Tom Cruise over his recent "Oprah" appearance, high-fived and thrust her fist in the air, saying, "I love this woman! This woman is so hot! She's a woman!" She finished by slapping herself and saying, "Oh, my God, I'm so gay." Judging by the uproarious laughter, although Middle America might be buying Cruise's romance with Katie Holmes, the high-rollers who raised $30 million for Robin Hood are more skeptical. (Page Six)
Words escape me:
A Long Island woman found dead in her home was strangled by her 12-year-old daughter, police said yesterday. ... rest of story
Fish belly white is my preferred look for fall and winter, but spring and summer I actually make an effort to not blind people with the glare off of my body.
Personally, I prefer the fishbelly white to skin cancer and wrinkles. Folks'll just have to bear with my glare :)
That's the beauty of sunless tanning. You are tan, but you still wear your SPF so you don't wrinkle, burn, or risk cancer. It's a wonderful thing.
And I've tried'em. But even the ones that come highly recommended turn strange colors when they come in contact with my skin. And I follow the directions. Oh, well. Mr. Mew loves my pale, pasty hide just the way it is. I'm blessed :)
