Bo Bice Robbed, Carrie pre-selected? Another American Idol Scandal?

time? That's what folks think on the Bo Bice message board on BiceSquad.com. A Bo Bice supporter posted a link that was allegedly published on the online edition of the UK news outlet "The Independent." The mystery link dated May 22, 2005, days before Fox unveiled Carrie Underwood as the winner, identifies Carrie as the new American Idol:

Britain's stars shine for Europe By Jason Nisse 22 May 2005

Ten British-based business people have been named among the 25 Stars of Europe by American magazine BusinessWeek. However, only five of them are actually British, showing the international nature of the UK business community.

Among the more predictable names in the list are Sir Terry Leahy, chief executive of Tesco; BT boss Ben Verwaayen; and Nigel Newton, who signed JK Rowling for Bloomsbury Publishing. More surprising are Andrew Black and Ed Wray, the co-founders of Betfair.com; and Simon Fuller, the pop impresario whose American Idol TV competition was won this year by Carrie Underwood.

Another Bo fan, on the same message board, stated:

"I read about the article on another website last night. Someone wrote the paper and asked how they could print that when the winner had not been determined yet. The paper wrote her back and said they were sorry and the story would be retracted and that they had no inside information. Another editor on another paper stated that they may have thought Carrie was the winner because her song is first on the the CD and all the other finalist were listed in the order they left."

The link to The Independent does not show the reported text, and reads "page not found." But, the original text can still be viewed via Google's "cache" and the headline is still in the archives of the Europe Business Post. Was Bo's near miss rap sheet too much to let him win? Who knows. Even if The Independent's story was real and innocent, it'll certainly fuel American Idol conspiracy theorists who've long suspected some funny business with the show's voting.

Don't get me wrong, I really like Bo too. I just think that Carrie is more appealing overall to the general public.

I see Bo doing some kind of Bluesish album.

He was fantastic with Lynard Skynard. You could tell he was really moved by the experience.

I will buy his album when it's out and also Carrie's.

Certainly a matter of taste. I preferred Bo, as did my wife. Then again we are late 30s, so it could be a cultural thang. Nothing offensive at all about Carrie - sweet looking and singing. Too me she just seems so cookie-cutter. I think Bo will be a bigger star, but again, that is subjective.

I just think that they are both so great. Seem like such decent, kind people from good families. They both deserved to be there. Last night's finale was almost an emotional, feel-good experience because of the quality of the two finalists.

I was very impressed with Bo's graciousness, and his family cheering for Carrie. It was just great.

Or Simon.

Well, I am 36 and love the kind of rock that Bo does. Grew up listening to the Eagles, Boston, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Aerosmith. Love it!

I agree that Bo will be big. Carrie will do well in the Country genre.

It was well said (Simon prolly), that these two from the onset knew who they were musically. Carrie occasionally tried to do rock, but never lost that country aura or went trashy. Bo made each song his own in that charming hippie-redneck way he has. Best final yet and best two finalists. The first hour last night though was DREADFUL!!!

I don't think it was outstanding. He had no range in his voice. There are far too many real deals I can listen to. Why listen to him?

He is more like IMO a Bob Seeger, Allman Brothers and Blood Sweat and Tears Type...

Thanks for clarifing. I would rather listen to Bob Seeger, Allman Brothers and Blood Sweat and Tears. Bo is a COPYCAT, time has passed him by. He will sell enough records to satisfy his American Idol fans. I don't expect much more. I'm always ready to admit that I am wrong if he should become a star. I won't hold my breath waiting.

consider that she was never in the bottome three, while Bo was once, that and Simeon predicting twice that she would win.

The point is they guy can sing! He will develop his own Music....I would rather hear CoptCat great Musicians than horrible freaky Music of RAP< TECHNO, or POP as in Brittney Spears etc...that isn't even Music..

The New Generation like BO, JOSS STONE, will be able to bring back some of the greats by there voice....

I agree with you on the Rap, Techno, and Pop not being music. But still have to disagree with you on Bo developing his own music. So far, all I see is imitation. If he developes into a good singer, I will be the first to admit I was wrong.
