Electronic Disturbance Theater (EDT) in solidarity with Swarm The MinuteMen action will hold a 3 Day Virtual Sit-In starting on May 27th to May 29th (2005) on the MinuteMen Project. Who are the MinuteMen:

The MinuteMen are a non-governmental group of people vowing to patrol the US/Mexico border with guns in order to stop migrant people from crossing the border. They represent an intensification of the trend of violence towards migrant people and people of color that has increased since 9/11/2001. While they claim that they are not violent, their very use and display of deadly weapons is a violent act in itself. How can guns be used to detain people without being violent? Already there have been numerous reports of people being forced to lie on the ground by the MinuteMen and being forced to have their pictures taken with MinuteMen volunteers, recalling Abu Ghraib style dehumanization.

While the MinuteMen publicly claim to be non-violent, we here at SWARM know a different face of the MinuteMen. We've received numerous death threats and threats of violence filled with racial slurs. We plan to publicly release these soon to let everyone know the exact kind of hatred the MinuteMen are acting as a lightning rod for, attracting it and focusing it towards migrant people.

Just as important though, the MinuteMen are a clear result of the violent, us-versus-them mentality promoted by the Bush administration.

We are intervening into and dancing with the communication systems of the MinuteMen because along with the physical violence they are creating, they are extremely conscious of the violent power their messages have and they had any measure of success thanks to the complicity the corporate media. Their communications are a critical part of their mission to send a message to legislators that more militarization of the border is necessary. Their images and words can't be separated from the violence of their guns, and both must be stopped.

We refuse to support the United States government's attempts to find a scapegoat to blame this country's problems on while it bankrupts our social services, wages wars on the world, sends our brothers, sisters, friends and neighbors to die and profits off of the whole plan. Who stands to profit from a more militarized border? Will the same corporations that made billions in government contracts off of the war in Iraq like Halliburton and CACI be the same ones to profit from the war on the border?

We must stand together now to say that this country is made up of millions of people of many different ethnicities and cultures and that is due to migration. Migrant people have human rights, regardless of the government's and the racist's attempts to deny that fact. Until the United States has a sane immigration policy that allows people to move as freely as capital and goods do, we will continue to struggle.

For one make sure that you have news media there to find out and report if their little Eeeee-Lec-Tron-ick messing with the Minute Men affects LE/Emergency Service Communications or Military communications if near a military base. Ya know, I've been thinking a lot about the Statue lately. It seems that the lady is a beacon to those mentioned on that plaque, but since it was given to us by France, then I'm all for giving it back to them and let them be a beacon to those down and out illegals. I'd gladly chip in to arrange for a ship to pick it up and ALL the illegals. I'm so sure France would welcome them with open arms, since they think we are so terrible.

Thanks for the ping, I was wondering where to put the latest news from the Garden Grove California meeting on the border that was held tonight.

The group had been warned, sorry, I have missed the group name 2 nights now, but did a lot of the info on the meeting.

Terry went to the meeting on the border tonight, this is what he had to say:

Over 100 Policemen were on the meeting site. That is 75% of the Garden Grove police department, Terry used the word "Awesome" to describe the job they did.

Complete with a horse mounted team.

150 to 200 very ugly/nasty protesters were there.

When the meeting was breaking up, the police opened for
traffic flow, but that allowed bottles to be thrown and car and other windows to be broken.

One of the protesters attempted to stop a car of one of the
men, (a speaker?), the protester threw himself on the ground
in front of the car and the driver was not able to stop, it is not believed that the protester was badly hurt, but the
driver was arrested.....

Possibly the name was Carl Matson, that is about what it sounded like, for the arrested man who was the driver. There are many witnesses to the fact that it was not the drivers fault.

The police had put up yellow tape and not allowed the protesters to cross it.

What has happened to our country, now, we need 100 cops to guard 150 Americans who are having a public meeting on something as important as the disease and terrorists who are crossing the border.?

The same thing has been set up for the planned meeting in
Las Vegas for this weekend, also to protest the open border.

The Las Vegas group has also been threatened and will have the same protection from the Police.

I have a friend who was at the CCIR's meeting in Garden Grove tonite. He said they were in the meeting and were surrounded and were really in fear for their lives. Hal Netkin, of mayorno.com ran over 2 protesters and my friend said that he was probably scared by the protesters who were really violent and angry. The police were dressed in riot gear but didn't do anything to break them up. They attacked people, one person went to his car to get something and was attacked and his car window was smashed. They had to escort attendees to their cars afterwards. This was very terrible. If anyone wants to donate to Hal Netkins defense and bail fund Barbara Coe of CCIR is collecting money. Also, I will give anyone Hal's email address if you freemail me.

I would not be surprised that the name I heard was wrong,
I tried to type it as I thought I heard it.

It is a shame that Hal has been arrested, but it is exactly what the trouble makers wanted. It is their insurance of being on lots of news reports.
