Didn't get in on "Desperate Housewives" until toward the end of the season but gave it a watch to see what my s-i-l was talking about. Looked like fun but I really couldn't follow it (having missed so many of the earlier episodes and having to listen to Mr. h's grumpiness because he wanted to watch his precious ESPN (he's an ESPN TV Hog). Wish I had started from the beginning!

Ah, well...maybe if I spent more time trying to learn the computer instead of any TV, I would know how to fix my little problem. However, I will not give up '24' for the computer, Mr. h, ESPN...nobody!

It's a mess, Laz. I'm not even sure what defragging is, or how to keep neat files or how to eliminate things that keep trying to access the Internet...especially goof ball stuff that got in before I got ZoneAlarm.

I'm afraid to ask for help because sometimes you get responses like "hold a huge magnet - the biggest one you can find - next to your hard drive and then go outside and scream like a chicken!"

Is there a PING list that would help novices such as myself? Or a good DUMMY book you can recommend? Even a DUMBIE book would be helpful!

Please--tell me how to turn off graphics in IE. As you said, it would come in real handy on some of the graphic heavy live threads...

OK, from the menu bar at the top, select the "Tools" dropdown. The last item should be "Internet Options..." and click that. A little window with many folder tabs should pop up. The last tab should be "Advanced." Click on the tab and a series of check boxes should appear. Scroll down to the "Multimedia" section and you should see an entry for "Show pictures." Unclick the box to deselect the display of pictures and click the OK button. You might have to exit and then restart IE for it to take effect. Now in place of the images, you will see the little "red x box." That should remind you that you have deselected viewing images. To show them, simply follow the same steps to put the check back next to "Show pictures." You might want to consider turning off some of the other multimedia options while you are in there (play sounds, play video, etc.)
