10 Songs that Make You Crack Open a Beer While Driving (vanity)
MyMind | 5/22/05 | Sir Pissant

There are just some songs that are so good, that when heard on the car radio, they trigger an automatic reflex to pop open a frosty cold brew. I know it's illegal in most states, but the law be damned when RYS (Retrograde Youth Syndrome) is triggered by the the following songs:

10. Pride and Joy (Stevie Ray Vaughn)

9. Wild Night (Van Morrison)

8. Locomotive Breath (Tull)

7. White Room (Cream)

6. You Shook Me (AC/DC)

5. London Calling (clash)

4. Sultans of Swing (Dire Staights)

3. Honky Tonk Women (Stones)

2. Roadhouse Blues (Doors)

1. La Grange (ZZ Top)

Somewhere I have "Screaming in the Night" --the video. MTV's Headbanger's Ball, most likely.

How about the Clash, Elvis Costello, the early Pretenders, Gang of Four, or the Sex Pistols?

Have you been peeking at my CD collection???

Bad Boy's Get Spanked and Tattooed Love Boys, classic songs!!

I was also thinking Suicide's "Ghost Rider", The Jim Carroll Band's "People Who Died", Synchronicity 1 and 2 by the Police and my perennial favorite: Kiss' Rock and Roll all Nite.

Yes, as a matter of fact I have. While you were in the shower.

I'm gonna have to buy a turntable and spin some of my old albums.

The Pretenders were a cohesive unit. I liked "Mystery Achievement." Also, add "Cruiser" by the Cars.

I'm 52, and I vainly believe that I was born at the perfect time for music.

I'm 52 too, and I honestly think that was objectively the best time for popular music! We caught the tail end of the fifties and and rode the sixties wave all the way in.

I pretty much bailed in the early seventies and now, with some exceptions, mostly listen to oldies (the Rhapsody service is great for finding good ones that haven't been overplayed on "classic rock" radio)and straight blues.

Against the wind is more of a "cry in your beer" song

Yeah, well sometimes that's needed. Anyway, a great song and even greater lyrics. Seger is a modern day minstrel- not too many like him around.

"Johnny Cash's Drunken Ira Hayes, if you wanna quit drinking"

I went to AA one time to try and quit drinking

I kept getting 12 step and 12 pack mixed up

It was a miserable failure

Yes, I fully expected Born To Be Wild to be on the top of the list. Maybe some have tired of it, but it is sort of THE road trip song for me...
