Hello, fellow conservatives. (Do we have a smaller word?) This is my first post, so please be kind. I'm new to this form of conversation. I have a question. My daughter is a talented SAG actor, new to LA after studying/graduating in NYC. She is finding it difficult to get an agent, and wonders if perhaps politics may be an issue. (She is a very conservative Republican.) Any of you in LA with any answers? Thanks!

Perfectly fine.

It is only a problem when a newcomer posts something like this:

"Dude, cooperations have like, money." (An actual quote from one of my favorite ZOTs. You will learn about ZOTS as you become further immersed into FR society.)

The answer is simple. Just have your daughter wear a "*uck Bush" T-Shirt to her next interview

Hey, this is my first post, too. I was a member years ago, but forgot my name, etc., and just re-joined yesterday.

Anyway, can't the agent she had in NYC refer her and introduce her to someone in LA? My brother is in SAG and has an agent and hasn't had any problems with politics. I'd think it would be as much an issue in NY, though. Anyway, I wish her good luck.

Industry people out here are extremely bigoted. They hate conservatives. She'll have to learn to keep her views to her self. This won't be easy considering the rotting tripe that flies out of so many mouths around here.

(No, I'm not in the entertainment industry; however, I do know quite a few people who are.)

Re: your original question...I'm not in L.A., nor do I have any connections to the Biz. But her politics shouldn't be an issue in getting an agent, should they? If she is telegenic and talented, she'll eventually find someone who has an opening for another actress. Many agents are so busy they're not taking on new clients--much like many dentists. Especially if she hasn't had much experience yet.

Once she gets an agent and tries for parts, that's when I can foresee politics being an issue. Actually, I'd guess the problem may be more with *values* than with *politics.* A casting director would probably not give a hoot about your daughter's position on the right to keep and bear arms. He'd probably care much more about your daughter's willingness to bare skin, unfortunately, in today's sex-soaked culture. Sex sells, and those willing to play the game are those that get the parts.

As she sticks to her values and avoids the tawdry roles, she will definitely have less work. She should be prepared for that, and have a good bill-paying job in the meantime.

What is a SAG?
If she sags, maybe that is the reason?

Speaking for 99.5% of us on this thread tonight, I'm sorry. I wish your introduction to FreeRepublic had been more hospitable. Please don't let the actions of one over-zealous individual sully your opinion of the entire forum. As you can see, you have plenty of supporters and defenders on this thread, and, if you stick around a while, I think you'll find you will have many friends as well.

Take care. Tomorrow is almost certain to be a better day.

So basically, what you're REALY saying here is that you know you're going to have to be sending her MONEY for the next few years because of her career choice, and you want her to find the fastest route from "Point A" to "Point B?"

:) <--- (That means I'm teasing you!)

Welcome to Free Republic, CyberMom!
