Well the author seems to think that Sports are a free-standing feature of society totally unliked to little things like SEX, AGGRESSION, etc. If sports weren't a .... awww to heck with it.... Just post a picture dummy, and move this thread along...

Ah, could it be that females are feminine, even if they play sports? Just guessing here but maybe ribbon-wearing and a fondness for pink are just what a lot of young women do and they continue to do it even through they compete in athletics. Kind of like the way young men in athletics often still wear football jerseys and running shoes even though they don't compete in football or running.
