If you are an American citizen with no felony convictions and handgun ownership is not against the law in your state, it doesn't matter if your husband is not yet a citizen, YOU can get a gun.

I suggest you do though I certainly hope you never need it.

probably would be a good idea to get some training on how to properly use a gun (and stuff like cleaning it etc) especially if you have never used one before.
