Most lawyers will not take a case until after a retainer is paid. You need money? Give me $2500 & I'll see what I can do for you. After you've paid them off from your divorce, they are under no further obligation to take care of everything that may come up afterwords.

Collection agencies require a signed contract & won't guarantee that they will collect anything. Generally, most of them only work the easy cases. They take a third or more of anything they collect, right off the top.

You do not need a lawyer to file for contempt charges against someone who is not following a lawful court order. I've helped people walk themselves through some of the process. Courts are used to seeing people do things like this themselves. Many court houses have pro se or self help centers & most of those will have helpful people to give you the form you need & will tell you what to do with them, after you've filled them out. I've also helped walk people through the process of filing for a child support reduction.
