Word For The Day, Friday, May 6, 2005

May 6, 2005, Friday

In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of “word for the day”. Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the “word of the day”; in a sentence. The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. Practice makes perfect.....post on....

Subbie Slip has her whip, handcuffs and legcuffs today. Tomorrow I’m bringing in chains, so beware.

The rest of the stuff is locked up in my drawer. I’m just letting all the new students know that we behave as if we were ladies and gentlemen in here. Those two words “as if” can get you an A if you make the subbie laugh.

IT’S COMMANDO FRIDAY!

PECCANT

Adjective
Etymology: Latin, peccans, peccant – present participle of peccare, “to sin.”
Pronunciation:pe/caent
1) Sinful, guilty.
2) Violating a rule or accepted practice; erring.

Peccancy=noun; peccantly=adjective

Thank you again, Arghie! You’re making it rough for me to give you quadruple F minuses.

I would like a truckload of mulch. And someone to spread it. Is that too sentimental?

Jax came home from school this afternoon and gifted me with the Mother's day present the class had been secretly working on. They had planted marigolds in clear plastic cups and then they made decorative labels to place between a second clear plastic cup. But it was the 4 page card that actually brought tears to my eyes.

Happy Mother's Day, my FRiend.

xsbrownie spirited something home from school and from her backpack to her drawer in her room. i don't think it is a planted thing, i always loved those the best. you are so lucky! i am sure the card was sweet. I hope you have a wonderful day.

we are actually taking some friends out to brunch for mothers day, not just the xsfamily of 5. One friend's husband has been out of work for awhile, and she is godmother and confirmation sponsor to my kids, so we are taking them, and xshub invited someone that works for him who is a single mom, whose ex has remarried and had another child. so she will get zero recognition on that score. i am looking forward to it, it should be a lot of fun.

I want a truckload of dirt so I can expand my garden first, THEN a load of mulch over that and someone to spread both...

I want to go fishing - but the weather is not being cooperative. So my annual Mother's day fishing day is taking place on Tuesday. Jax has a field trip to Virginia Beach that day and needs to be at school at 7:15am and they won't be back until 7pm....knowing in advance it was so close to Mother's day hubby took the day off from work :)

Yup - real sentimental!!!!!

But I got my real Mother's Day present earlier this week. We've joked here before about the industrial strength/commercial size of my vegetable garden - it's not a joke anymore. hubby has agreed to allow me to try to go "commercial." A roadside produce stand and selling homemade pickles, preserves, and hot sauces.

At nearly 45 I'm doing exactly what I did at 16 when I realized that I could not go into marine biology/oceanography because I totally sucked at science and opted instead to use what aptitude I had. I could write, lived for current events and wasn't afraid of speaking in public - so I went into radio news and then politics. There are no calls for my writing, speaking or political skills wher I live now, so I'm switching to the appitudes I have that can work here - growing veggies and cooking.

That is just too cool! I'm too far off the main road to have a stand-but I can sell my produce at my shop, if I can ever find a space to rent that is reasonable...

That really sounds like a nice outing-my daughter is working Sunday, so we are doing dinner out Saturday night. I doubt that she'll get me a load of dirt, though-she usually gives me kitchen stuff...

Your plans for Mother's Day sound wonderful. How thoughtful of you to do for the others in what could be an uncomfortable situation. I can't wait to here how much fun you had - because I am sure you're correct and it will be a lot of fun.

coolbreeze works on Sunday and so we have, in the past, always done MD on saturday. He would take the day off if I asked, but I don't think it's necessary. The weather is supposed to break tomorrow, so with any luck Jax and I will get to spend the day planting. We had borrowed a tiller from friends and they need it back, so coolbreeze is going to return that to them while I take Jax to get her hair done tomorrow. He will also be bringing home between 50 and 75 tomato plants. Our friend's are electricians and a client gave them over 100 tomato plants and they have no use for that many - but i do!!!!

I can guarantee that whatever xsbrownie stashed in her drawer you will LOVE!!!!

I'm more than 2 miles from the highway, BUT this is a very busy road because there is a fishing village complete with boat ramp at the end of it, and a large campground in between.

My SIL and 2 friends are openning a specialty gift shop up in Dover next month. They already have refrigerator cases in for some gourmet foods, so I'm hoping I can convince them to let me try out some of my stuff :) My friend that owns the local seafood market also works with local artists and craftsmen selling their wares at the market, I'm sure I can work something out with her.

I'm currently culling through my recipes and I'm going to try a couple new ones I've come across that are intriguing.

Starting with hubby's next paycheck, he gets paid twice a month, I'm going to be buying 6 cases of canning jars and then start stalking the flea markets for "decorative" bottles that can be corked.
