Word For The Day, Friday, May 6, 2005

May 6, 2005, Friday

In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of “word for the day”. Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the “word of the day”; in a sentence. The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. Practice makes perfect.....post on....

Subbie Slip has her whip, handcuffs and legcuffs today. Tomorrow I’m bringing in chains, so beware.

The rest of the stuff is locked up in my drawer. I’m just letting all the new students know that we behave as if we were ladies and gentlemen in here. Those two words “as if” can get you an A if you make the subbie laugh.

IT’S COMMANDO FRIDAY!

PECCANT

Adjective
Etymology: Latin, peccans, peccant – present participle of peccare, “to sin.”
Pronunciation:pe/caent
1) Sinful, guilty.
2) Violating a rule or accepted practice; erring.

Peccancy=noun; peccantly=adjective

Thank you again, Arghie! You’re making it rough for me to give you quadruple F minuses.

Well.. Depends on the nature of the sketch as to whether the drawing is in any way peccant.

Thanks!

Eeeek! *slap!*

I saw that, but I'm not going to buy the article, so I can't read the details to see what, if anything, they're talking aboot. I'm sure you've seen my Nero Caesar explanation before.

bc i read that the real number of the Beast is the most unremarkable 616 or 615, something less then memorable.

That's what happens in a failing economy.......it's' all Bush's fault.

BWWWWWHAAAAAAAAAAHAAAAAAAAAA

In Hebrew, the letters of the alphabet have each assigned a number (for example S might be represented by the number 42, I don't know the actual numbers). Written Hebrew uses only consonants. The total of the number values of the consonants in Nero Caesar (Qasr Nero) add up to 666. Any Jewish scholar in the first century would have understood this, and would have understood that 666 was code for the Emperor Nero. NOT Satan. Nor any of his minions. Nor what we commonly think of today as the Antichrist. Nor even Hillary. You're welcome. I'm sure I pinged you to this explanation just a couple or three weeks ago.

Mathematician and other freepers having a field day with the 666 article, which I've now read, and I see a reference at the end that 666 was supposed to represent Nero.

GMTA, here was my take on the media reporting this, on that thread:

"As the bear market continues the number of the beast lost 7% closing at 616 from it's previous high of 666. Abby Joseph Conan chief investment strategist of Golden Calf Investments is still bullish. She says "look we were at the previous high for nearly 2000 years, this is just a temporary correction. Ralph Makeyapoora of J.P.Morganchasem concures. But the man on the street is not reassured. We asked Palm Beach retieree Damien (last name witheld) was quoted as saying "on my fixed income I can't take anymore risk. I'm getting out before things turn Apocolyptic." Gold bugs also welcome the instability in the market saying now gold really is the only sure thing.

This has been your market update from CNBS financial news."

Well, at least I got home early enough to vacuum and mop the floors downstairs and Swiffer the upstairs ones-

What a delectable little tidbid
I see in the news today
Clinton's pardon of Cisneros
That just won't go away

Throw in some IRS fraud-
Hush money to flavor the stew
And Henry looks as peccant
As his mentor X42

I'll bet they both are wishing
After all is done and said
That they like fat Teddy had
A mistress who is dead
