Rush may well have been doing a play on the 2004 early exit poll leak...

"This has not been confirmed anywhere else, least of all in the UK where freedom of speech is different from what it is here and leaking them is a crime."

This situation is a good illustration of why. If this story is in anyway true, the last thing the Tories want is for it to be released and scare apathetic Labour voters to the polls.

No, but I'd bet that it is just CBS reporting false numbers again in the hope that Blair's supporters will stay home and the neocommunists in the west will be encouraged to come and vote against Blair.

Has anyone seen Don Rather lately? No, I don't know what he looks like, either, but he's prolly forging election documents in the UK.

Rush said the exit polls at the moment he talked about it showed a defeat for Labour.

British voters don't vote for prime minister directly in England. Blair's not on the ballot except in his own district. The winning party in parliament selects its leader.

It's also been stated that stay-at-home non-voters will have an important impact as there will be so many of them.

Labour adherents are conflicted because they oppose the Iraq war, so rather than vote against their party, they'll sit tight.

Some other factors are causing voter apathy, too much detail to go into here.

About the only thing exiting the Tories this election is immigration. This may play a bigger role in this election than is thought. People don't want to talk about this subject openly or in pre-election polls. But the factor is there.....and who knows what role it will play.

Carry on.

It is almost inconceivable that Howard would actually become PM. Victory would be for him to cut Labour's lead in the House by a big margin, opening the door to a change in Labour leadership and a new election within a few years where Conservative will have a real shot at taking control of the government.

So, assuming the Tories win...what was the issue that killed them? Immigration?

If I was a Euro, that would be my top issue.

(Sadly, Americans have no political choices in regards to immigration. No Democrat or Republican wants to be charged with xenophobia and bigotry)

Yep. But Howard and the Tories have been getting blasted as bigots for wanting controlled immigration.

"So, assuming the Tories win"

That's a mighty big assumption. Nevermind a Tory win, a Labour victory of less than 50 seats would be a pretty big suprise.

I wonder if the hunting and gun ownership issues will hurt Labour in the country. When I visited my cousins in February that was the talk in the pubs. Of course my cousin was a conservative from way back.

When Rush said that I thought he was just making fun of how everybody said Kerry was going to win because of exit polls out at 1pm.

The british don't do exit polls like we do, so I don't know why Rush would know anything about it. Maybe he did, but I just thought it was funny.

But the British HAVE adopted their own version of American-type exit polls.

Remember, years ago, one of their parties or politicians (can't remember, maybe Blair?) even hired James CarVILE and other American consultants to help out in campaigning.

I doubt if the Brits have ANYONE comparable to motor-mouth Serpent Head, so they turn to their former colony for lend-lease.

Yep. The problem is that there are few Labour-held seats in the country, but what exists, will go back to blue this time.
