Consultant stirs confusion in case of former district attorney Roach

AMARILLO - Earlier this year, former 31st District Attorney Rick Roach hired his own sentencing consultant, a Rhode Island firm, to help prepare for his upcoming sentencing on a drug-related federal firearms charge.

But Roach's case took an unusual twist last week when he asked U.S. District Judge Mary Lou Robinson to ignore a letter his sentencing consultant improperly shipped off to the judge last month.

In February, Roach resigned and pleaded guilty to one federal charge of possessing a firearm while being a user of a controlled substance. He faces up to 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine for the charge.

Also, you would hope that he would know better! He definitely cannot claim ignorance of laws or ordinances.

The article originally featured a photo of the former DA and he did not look like the brightest bulb on the Christmas tree.
