I'll just say this one last thing on "The Runaway Bride". If, and that's a big if, I ever do get married, it's going to consist of me, the bride, two witnesses, and a justice of the peace. None of this full blown, all out wedding stuff, because I've seen firsthand the stress it leads to.
I've attended, and served in many funerals, erm weddings that is, for frat brothers and relatives, and they all had the same thing in common. Somebody comes unhinged. Usually it's the bride, but I remember one spectacular occasion where it was one of my frat brothers, who spent the entire day getting so plastered he could barely speak the vows. That marriage lasted all of two years...
There have been some weddings where me and an old friend from high school(she's my sister's best friend and we've flirted for over 20 years) would bet on how long the marriage would last. Catty? Absolutely. But our over-under was usually dead-on. We could nail a winner or a loser in about 15 seconds of getting the wedding invitation.
Could have a French lib, a Massachusetts Lib, etc.
We had one shower, two attendants, and maybe 100 people. Of course, our marriage has lasted only 29 years, so maybe they know something we don't.;^)
One more thing, aand then I PROMISE I won't bring it up again: is it just me, or is there something REALLY SPOOKY about that girl's eyes?????

Neets, saw you made the baked french toast for breakfast. I made that for our Easter breakfast at church. Everyone loved it! How about your household?
Except for the number of bridesmaids, there isn't anything particularly weird about the wedding...it is just a big one.
My cousin had a huge wedding like that back in the 80's...about 600 guests, 5 bridesmaids, 2 flowergirls, fancy buffet at a posh downtown club.
My husband and I had our parents and two friends. LOL!
One of my sisters had 5 bridesmaids and about 300 people. My daughter had about 200 with 5 bridesmaids.
I think in some circles (my cousin was one) the invitations are used because of friends of the parents. My cousin married a partner in a law firm so a lot of the guests were clients. My daughter's wedding was large because of 2 big families and lots of school, work, and church friends. I think larger weddings like this are more common in the south, but that is just my opinion and may be wrong.
I have one liberal plant at home.... It's a bleeding heart.
I attended the wedding of the daughter of the current Governor of Louisiana, dingbat and elitist that she is(think Barbara Boxer or Nancy Pelosi, and you have Kathleen Blanco), because she was marrying one of my frat brothers. There had to be at least a thousand people packing that church and reception hall. Worst of all, I was forced to sit next to the Dean who actively worked to run our frat off campus. And the Mass lasted well over an hour and a half. Grrr.....

600 guests and 14 Bridesmaids sounds excessive to me, also.
"Big" weddings are a common thing here where it isn't unusual for 4 generations of a family to be living in a community. Big would be defined as 200-300 guests.
When both the Bride & Groom live in the same community and went off to college where they developed another big circle of friends, these occasions tend to grow. But NEVER to 600.
Both of my older boys were married in front of more than 200 guests. That's not unusual here. Actually typical.
I've never been invited to a wedding where there were 600 guests. However, I have been to cattle shows where there were that many attending. Hmmmm.
Will Mr. PB be attending the World Pork Expo? If so, is there a possibility you will be traveling with him?

I'm getting visions of "Animal House" here. LOL! I know it must have been an unpleasant experience sitting next to that Dean in such a large gathering, but reading about it made me laugh!

Yes, the World Pork Cook-off is held there.
But the meeting is primarily a huge trade show and dozens and dozens of seminars on livestock production, marketing and record keeping.
Bring your own gravy. We tend to subscribe to the theory that gravy is useful for covering up mistakes.
Well, I am off to get my hair cut and colored. More boring maintenance stuff, but at least I won't be missing garden time..it is windy and 47 outside with no sun.
