WELLINGTON, New Zealand (AP) New Zealand cinema owners said Friday they may use mobile phone jamming technology to stop mid-movie calls and text messaging in the hopes of preventing disruptions and conflicts between patrons.
The national Motion Pictures Exhibitors Association said its studying the legality of using mobile phone jammers in the groups 200 cinemas around the country.
Mobile phones in cinemas were a huge disruption to moviegoers, said association spokesman Duncan Mackenzie.

Better hope that medical professionals and others who are "on call" aren't at that theater when the call comes.
Someone always has to ruin it for everybody.
How about denying tickets to any parents with small children after 5pm? Wouldn't want those portable alarm systems going off in the theater and bothering other people.
And how about testing for B.O.? People who eat with their mouths open?

Preach it! Of course, this would require people to place limits on their behaviour, and we know how this concept is nearly forgotten in our present society.
I have to be accessable, if I get a call which can not wait i walk out of the theater to take the call. This is an issue of manners not technology.
Of course they could just build the theaters with a wire mesh shield into the walls to just block the signals.
I agree, this boils down to people being inconsiderate. I do not care if people bring a cell phone into a theatre as long as they are considerate.
