Why Is Scott Still On 'Idol'? Is “votefortheworst.com” propping him up? (+ Bo’s dr

SCOTT Savol, who seems to be the most unlikely finalist on "American Idol" this season, just keeps hanging on.

And viewers are beginning to wonder exactly how Savol, the pudgy kid from Shaker Heights, Ohio, is managing to pull it off, while fan favorites like Constantine Maroulis get the boot, as he did Wednesday night.

Some point to the efforts of a Web site called votefortheworst.com, which considers "Idol" a joke and encourages viewers to cast their votes for Savol because, it says, "he is the worst."

"I think our site definitely has some effect on the results for 'Idol,' " says Dave DellaTerza, the site's creator.

"I always used to say it's just like any 12-year-old girl power-voting for [Idol wannabe] Carrie [Underwood]," he says.

That girl "thinks her results affect the show, too, when they just help to contribute. But I've changed my tune a bit since our Web site got over 100,000 hits in the last two days. Now I'm hearing from people who throw 'vote for the worst' parties, who get office pools together to vote for Scott . . . This has definitely turned into something huge, which I hope will continue."

It was a shock Wednesday when Maroulis, who had never before come even thisclose to getting tossed from the show, was voted out. But the native New Yorker took it in stride.

Along comes American Idol. My family which also watches very little TV started watching it, so I sat down with them to have a look. What I found interesting was individual competition -- people competing as individuals trying to obtain their individual dreams.

I watch Jeopardy, 24 and American Idol. That's about it. however occasionally I catch an episode or two of Blue Collar TV. American Idol is really what America is all about. Intense head to head competition. And America gets to vote. It is democracy and capitalism at its best.

Good for you, P-Marlowe. Kelly Clarkson, who just turned 23 this week, is by far the most successful AI winner. She has been the #1 female pop artist on the Billboard charts for months. She has had several #1 hit singles on the Billboard charts, including 'A Moment Like This', 'Miss Independent', the phenomenal hit 'Breakaway', and 'Since You Been Gone'. Both singles 'Breakaway' and 'SUBG' have been certified platinum. Several others that have been in the top 10. Both her first album, 'Thankful', and her second, 'Breakaway', have been certified double platinum, and current sales projections indicate 'Breakaway' will go triple platinum by September.

As I've posted in response to similar negative comments as those from Fourty-Seven the last few days, Kelly is now so mainstream and successful that she's landed one of the most plum advertising gigs in the business. She the newest "Milk Moustache" girl in the long-running "Got Milk" ad campaign. Here's the first ad image along with some of the copy from the accompanying news release:

Her latest single, 'Behind These Hazel Eyes' was just release and is already climbing the charts. The Billboard Hit Projector has already tagged it as another #1 hit.

Kelly co-wrote several of the songs on 'Breakaway'. Her talents as an up-and-coming song writer were recognized recently when the leading music publishing firm in the world released the following news:

EMI Music Publishing has landed a worldwide co-publishing deal with Kelly Clarkson.

Clarkson co-wrote six songs on her current RCA album "Breakaway," which has sold more than 1.8 million units in the U.S. since its release last November, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

She co-wrote the next single from the album, "Behind These Hazel Eyes," with Max Martin and Lukas "Dr. Luke" Gottwald. She has also collaborated with Kara DioGuardi, Chantal Kreviazuk, Raine Maide and others.

"Kelly is one of the most talented writers and performers on the music charts today," says EMI Music Publishing CEO/chairman Martin Bandier.

Clarkson's first album, "Thankful," was certified double-platinum. She is currently on tour through the end of May.

Kelly's single 'Since You Been Gone' tops the year-to-date charte on Mediabase:

"SINCE U BEEN GONE" TOPS THE YEAR-TO-DATE CHART!

Apr 10, 2005
Kelly's HOT single "Since U Been Gone" has claimed the #1 spot on the Mediabase Year To Date Chart! This means that "Since U Been Gone" has the most spins for 2005 thus far, and it doesn't look like catching up to this smash hit will be all too easy for the competition!

Kelly's single is the only song of the year to break 100,000 spins so far (just over 102,000), with Ciara's "1,2 Step" as a distant #2 with over 98,000, and Green Day is following with over 97,000 with "Boulevard of Broken Dreams".

Kelly is currently on her first solo tour playing to sold-out venues across the country. The tour has been so successful that it is being extended this summer, after she finishes the first scheduled dates and returns from the UK where 'Breakaway' is being released in June.

To top it all off, Kelly's 2nd album has far, far outsold the latest album from superstar Jennifer Lopez.

2 singles on the Billboard charts top 20 for a debut album? Whoopie! Break out the champaine and start building the million dollar mansion! She's on her way to superstardom for sure! Tell me, how well are the other "winners" faring on the Billboard charts? Somehow I doubt any of them have had any singles in the top 20.

How many "one hit" wonders have there been on any Billboard charts over the years. I would bet that they are 95%+, yet we can all sing many of these from the 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, etc. By the way, all AI promises their contestants is that they will get a recording contract if they win. As it turns out there have been many from the first, second, and third seasons who have recorded something even though they have not won.

I didn't recognise ONE song.

Neither did I. What's more, I didn't like any of the songs. With all the controversy surrounding Constantine and Scott, people are overlooking two things: Constantine was absolutely horrible Tuesday. Scott wasn't much better, but for those open to the sentiment in it, the song Scott sang was actually touching. If the percentages between their votes were relatively narrow, that alone might have been enough to swing a few votes Scott's way.

Scott Savol to release his first original hit:

Shaker Heights Baby

Shaker Heights Baby, Shaker Heights Baby
All right stop, Collaborate and listen
Scott is back with my brand new invention
Something grabs a hold of me tightly
Then I flow like a harpoon daily and nightly
Will it ever stop? Yo - I don't know
Turn off the lights and I'll glow
To the extreme I rock a mic like a vandal
Light up a stage and wax a chump like a candle.

Dance, Bum rush the speaker that booms
I'm killing your brain like a poisonous mushroom
Deadly, when I play a dope melody
Anything less than the best is a felony
Love it or leave it, You better gain way
You better hit bull's eye, The kid don't play
If there was a problem, Yo, I'll solve it
Check out the hook while my DJ revolves it

It's not a fix. Bo is talented, appealing, has a strong presence....and is REAL. I voted for him as much as I could...and also Constantine....

Yep, she really is. Kelly is not a superstar yet, but she's on her way. She had a Christian cross tattooed on the inside of one of her wrists. She says it keeps her humble. If she can continue to keep her head on straight and stay beneath the tabloid radar, she's going to have one heck of a career.

It seems to me that the voters age has much to do with who they like. I am 64, hubby 75, we like Carrie, Anthony, and liked Anwar.

Age doesn't necessarily have anything to do with it. I'll soon be 67. I think Bo is a hearthrob, and Constantine is a sweet little angel. I was absolutely in shock when he lost. So was Paula. The tears were STREAMING down her face. I'll bet she helps Constantine pursue his career. She really likes that kid.

On the other show, Erica Jo is indeed a performer, but I was disappointed that Jason didn't win. I really liked his singing, his energy, his personality, and his beautiful little wife.

Not to mention that it's one of the few primetime network programs we can actually watch as a family.
