Much like his pal Francis Ford Coppola, Lucas peaked early and has been producing junk ever since.

Maybe Lucas should think about going into wine making.

Yeah, I think success didn't ruin Lucas but it altered him, making him a producer instead of a director. And as a producer he is extremely hands-on, to the point where he gave contradictory directions to what the director of Return of the Jedi was giving the cast. What an awful movie that was, too.

He has always said he loves the editing process best, and he could probably remake any movie just by taking over once shooting was done. But considering his success, his movies have been pretty weak for 25 years. That's a sad waste of talent. He's financed ILM's special effects, which he didn't have much to do with, obviously, and that's about it. Oh, that and approving the making of things like Star Wars toilet paper.

The original
Star Wars (now "Episode 4")
was almost non-stop

production problems
and Lucas was forced to change
almost everything

he had "imagined"
for that first film. It seems clear
that all his "troubles"

forced him to create
a really wonderful film.
But since that first film,

his technology
and endless ocean of cash
have let him be more

and more "true" to his
"vision" -- and all the films since
the first Star Wars film

have been worse and worse.
Stanley Kubrick was smart to
never make sequels!
