Friday, April 22, 2005

In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of “word for the day”. Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the “word of the day”; in a sentence. The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.

Subbie Slip has her whip, handcuffs and legcuffs today.

The rest of the stuff is locked up in my drawer. I’m just letting all the new students know that we behave as if we were ladies and gentlemen in here. Those two words “as if” can get you an A if you make the subbie laugh.

SINISTER

Adj
Pronunciation: Sin/i/ster.

adjective: (heraldry) on or starting from the wearer's left
Example: "Bar sinister"
adjective: stemming from evil characteristics or forces; wicked or dishonorable
Example: "The scheme of some sinister intelligence bent on punishing him-Thomas Hardy"
adjective: threatening or foreshadowing evil or tragic developments
Example: "Sinister storm clouds"

Yes, but that minister won't have any services this weekend.

(He's viewing a sinposium for nude models at the local art gallery.)

Good morning, Miss Slip:

Excellent WFTD, Dutchgirl!

Can anyone name one attractive Liberal?
They all look like a DNA train wreck
And appear disgustingly miserable

MoDo has a perpetual aura most foul
Helen Thomas's soul is a scowl
While Hillary appears a sinister skank

Nancy Pelosi's eyes jut from her forehead
Barbara Boxer looks like a critter
Run over and long left for dead
If looks equal brains, one might howl
These women got shortchanged at the bank!

More sinister bilge from the "Palestians"

In addition, an old accusation was repeated in an article in the official PA daily this week. The writer states that the true enemy of the Arabs is not Israel but the US, and that Israel is merely an arm of the US in its imperialist wars. In this article the US is accused of "grinding the bones" of Palestinian children, "devouring their eyes."

I feel your toast to Slippy's Uranus (as pleasing as they might be) is merely buttering up the Teach for more compliements.

Butt, I will stop lest I be accused of jamming up the progress of this thread about rounded global orbs.

Our new pope is dubbed a soul brother to Antonin

Now Joseph Ratzinger has the bully pulpit of the papacy, and it will be impossible to marginalize him as an unthinking dogmatist. He is not that. He is a formidable advocate for his ideas. He argues, for instance, (again in language redolent of Justice Scalia) that the Church's centuries of liturgical tradition were essentially "demolished" in the late 1960s. And he knows why he thinks roll-your-own liturgies were a mistake: "When liturgy is self-made, then it can no longer give us what its proper gift should be: the encounter with the mystery that is not our own product but rather our origin and the source of our life." Disagree if you will, but this is more than simply, "No."

Ahhhhhh to be six again!

A man asked his wife what she'd like for her

birthday. "I'd love to be six again," she replied.

On the morning of her birthday, he got her up bright

and early and off they went to a local theme park.

What a day! He put her on every ride in the park:

the Death Slide the Screaming Loop, the Wall of

Fear, everything there was! Wow!

Five hours later she staggered out of the theme

park, her head reeling and her stomach upside down.

Right to a McDonald's they went, where her husband

ordered her a Big Mac along with extra fries and a

refreshing chocolate shake.

Then it was off to a movie -- the latest epic, and

hot dogs, popcorn, Pepsi Cola and M Ms.

What a fabulous adventure!

Finally she wobbled home with her husband and collapsed into bed.

He leaned over and lovingly asked,

"Well, dear, what was it like being six again?"

One eye opened. "You idiot, I meant my dress size!"

The moral of this story: Even when a man is

listening, he's still gonna get it wrong.

obviously everyone and his brother is having his toes done this weekend bc it is finally getting summery out (all except OH, bc my SIL reports they have SNOW forecast this weekend, is that sick or what?) My regular salon is booked and they had to refer me to another one of their branches. sandal wearing weather demands decent toe-care!
