Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
...Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
|
|
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
|
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

Make sure you start with the first volume... if you don't, it's easy to get lost in the story.

Alex Ross?
Weirdly, I am now running an FR art ping list. Although I'm in danger of handing it off.

Wilco. Do the characters look "real"? Stylized is ok but a lot of what I see takes the stylization too far - they get to be lumpy.

Back in 1993(?), I was programming on a contract for Unka Ross. Was sitting in the office when something rounded and dark brown swooped down from the ceiling into the upper right quadrant of my vision, then withdrew.
Broke my concentration. I was in the basement of the oldest skyscraper in Austin; I was justifiably afraid of bugs. I looked around, and found nothing. Went back to work.
It came back.
I finally realized that there was nothing there, that this .. apparition ... was either a problem with my vision, or a problem with my brain.
By the time i got to the opthalmologist, it was worse; I'd developed a flickering, like heat shimmer, around the edges of my vision. The doctor said I was fine, and that these were ocular migraines, and nothing to worry about.
More recently, I have developed symptoms of cluster headaches. About four times a year, I will startle awake, sweating, one side of my face feeling as if it were inflamed. I go in the bathroom, and one eye is itchy (it's hard not to rub it) and bright bloodshot red. The nasal passage on that side is swollen shut; even Vick's Nasal Spray won't touch it. I have post-nasal drip on that side of my throat. I have to take a Benadryl, or two --- that fixes the problem in five minutes, and knocks me out in five more minutes. When I wake up, I feel great!
I don't get the round swooping thing anymore, but I get the heat shimmer whenever I'm very, very tired.
2J, have you been getting your rest?

I'm ashamed to say that both of my senators are stinking commie sympathizers. Cantwell and Murray. Yeesh...
We'd be better off with senators Hussein and Bin Laden.

I wouldn't wish migraines on anyone...but big round swoopy things sound rather nifty...
Or maybe not.

Alex Ross' website. His comic-book artwork is fully-painted, and much of it is based on posed models.
