Any kind of lotion, the cortisone stuff is expensive and not needed. It's quantity, not quality, that will feel good.

Yeah, that's why I've got him soaking in the tepid mineral oil bath...I figured it would feel good and lubricate the skin as well. He doesn't seem to mind, he's been in there for about a half hour.

I put the TV up on the counter in there! :-) Cyberchase is on...he really likes Cyberchase.

Oh dear... stop.

Kids get sunburns in life. Even ones with good moms. :~D

The thing is, Matthew's never had one! Joshua is so fair that I never let him go outside without a shirt for any extended periods of time, but Matthew never wears a shirt outside during the summer!

All I can think is that the pool has some kind of reflective quality that intensified the sun???

Yes it does. You always get worse sunburns on the water... and on snow, btw... when the time comes for skiing lessons ;~D

Um...water???

2J, sunburns are a natural part of growing up. Without fail I'd go to the pool from open 'til close the first day after school. And then spend the next week getting over the sunburn.

He'll be uncomfortable for a day or so. But if you keep him lotioned, he shouldn't peel. And he'll have a nice tan...and not burn so easily next time.

I once had to follow up on a child protective case where the mom left an infant in the sun all day. That was bad mothering.

Letting your boys play in the pool all day is not.

Milk of Magnesia.

I swear by it.

You smear it all over the burn and it pulls the heat right out of it. Dries quick too.

It will definitely stop the pain, but he may still peel.

Hi there! I saw your distress call about the sunburn. I would recommend Aloe Vera, just the straight aloe vera gel without other lotions and additives in it (except maybe vitamin E). Also, Vitamin E applied topically helps to heal the skin as well. I think you can find aloe vera gel with the vitamin E in it, which is probably the best.

My Mom and Dad had terrible sunburns several years ago, blisters all over, and they used the vitamin e and aloe vera gel and it really helped.

And what everyone else says is true, it is all part of childhood and growing up. As long as it doesn't become a habit, he'll be fine!

Nice to see you all! :) ::waves::

hehehe..

Even Alyson has already suffered her first sunburn.

It's unavoidable, sis. I wouldn't worry about it!

Thanks, I appreciate that...

Whenever he goes to the public pool, he hasn't burned like this...I really wonder if it's something about this particular pool? I don't know.

He always gets the nicest rosiest glow to his face, then it turns to freckles and tan. His face is ok. His shoulders and back are just roasted.

Ugh.

Well, he's out of the bath and sitting on the porch. He does look like he feels better, although he's very greasy! LOL

Worked out beautifully! I dealt with the same guy who set up my account. Service the way I like it: fast, friendly, and FREE!

Now...get to goof off for a bit before catching the bus.

He'll be ok. A sunburn or two is part of life. I've had enough... and I try to stay out of the sun and use sunscreen. It's my lovely northern European heritage, you know.

They make sunblocks specifically for pools and the beach that are waterproof - do you use those?

Ahhhh! That's right! I used to use that when I would get sunburned!

Well, nothing can penetrate the mineral oil he's got on right now...but it's good suggestions! Thanks, guys!

He's eating a tuna sandwich right now on the porch...seems more comfortable. I hope he can wear a shirt with that oil on him! He's supposed to go out to eat with my folks this evening.

He'll be just fine, chica. And it's a good lesson for him too.

He'll be very sunscreen-vigilant if he remembers what the burn feels like. :-)

Hi Penny!! So nice to see you!

Water always reflects sunlight. You can even get sunburned on slightly cloudy days because the UV rays are still coming through. He likely never got sunburned at the public pool because you probably didn't stay all day there. In your own back yard, you can stay in the water as long as you like without someone else's annoying kids bothering your little darlins. ;o)

Next time you're at Aldi's or Wally World, get some sunblock that stays on in water. Then let them have FUN!!

I have 'em...but didn't use 'em.

Which is mainly why I feel so bad. I usually just use them on Joshua.

You live and learn. He'll be fine, and I'll bet he reminds you to put sunscreen on him now.
