The Hobbit Hole XXI - ...Towards the Moon or to the Sun.

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

...Towards the Moon or to the Sun.

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Have you ever seen a Gilbert and Sullivan operetta? It may be culture but more than that, they're enormous fun.

Rent "The Pirates of Penzance" sometime if you haven't seen it, most video stores should carry it.

Yah, that's what I thought... that dog has done this before.

Yep, we did some negative G's... big fun. :-)

Have you seen this negative G dog clip? Might be a fun thing to include in a future aviation ping.

He pushed it a little longer than I ever did... you have to be a little careful in a typical plane with gravity-fed fuel and oil systems... do it too long and the engine sputters. ;~D

Am excited about the prospect of adding more G&S to my repertoir. I can sing long portions of Modern Major-General, the fast way - actually I can sing most of Pirates, except the girl parts cuz they're too high. And bits of HMS Pinafore, but not much of any of the others.

There are a lot of such places! And very reasonably priced, too, at least the time of year we visited.

We actually stayed at two different ones, as we traveled a bit. One was just about right over the barn - they had a couple of milk cows. And it was almost at the top of a hill overlooking the mountains. I got up at dawn and walked as high up as I could to watch the sun come up over the peaks. There's no way to capture that in photos...it was glorious!

Oh, I've seen it. And enjoyed it.

My favorite song from Pirates is Modern Major General. :-D

But it's been ages since I watched it. I plan on stopping by the video store on my way home anyway, so I should grab it.

Hmm...we should rent that sometime, too. Hadn't even occurred to me, for some reason! Do you think Blockbuster would have it?

I should think they would. I'm crossing my fingers that Hollywood Video carries it.

I know they do, but whether they've got it on DVD is another question.

My favorite song from Pirates is Modern Major General.

I assume you've heard the Tom Lehrer Elements version?

And if you have sound... a nifty flash animation of it.

Thankfully the bored meeting got out sooner than expected. The staff did their talking and lo and behold the bored members didn't ask questions.

Not so thankfully, still running into roadblocks with Nana's insurance. Nursing home is going to go ahead and bill the insurance and we're gonna appeal. But Sunday is the last day covered. She needs about 2 more weeks of therapy...and the home is $114 per day. It's gonna blow the crap out of any reserve she had in her bank account.

On the good news front (did I mention this already?). Youth group is doing a walkathon fundraiser on April 30. Jr. got enough pledges to pay off Brazil and make a dent into choir tour, and he hasn't hit the neighborhood yet.

Can I go home now?

You know, last week I was telling you how pleased I was with our new trash service because they actually came up to our house and got the trash even though I had forgot to put it out on the street?

Well, I remembered to put it on the street this time, but since they now know where I normally keep it, they put it BACK in that spot!

I'm just astounded. The service we used to have (not counting the one we had briefly where the guy was eating popcorn and picking up our trash) was once-a-week pickup for $14 a month. And if we forgot to put it out, we were just outta luck till the next week.

This service is twice-a-week pickup for $14, plus the added service of getting it even when I forget to put it out and putting the can back against our house!

I'm very pleased with this service!
