Good morning!

In his bid for reelection, Prime Minister Tony Blair is ahead. While some Brits are not to fond of Blair they are less fond of his opponents.

I missed it, too. Don't feel bad.

I just thought of something.

You may never become ambassador to the U.N. , Mrs. Pencil Thrower. ;-)

Regarding Frist: I believe he is one of those people who looks good on paper..conservative Republican, heart-surgeon, charity work, good-looking, etc. All of those character traits are true.

BUT he is not gifted with leadership or the ability to instill fear in his opponents. I don't think he should even bother running; he is not presidential material.

I agree 100%. Unfortunately, he was hand picked by GWB, remember?

Frist is too milquetoast to be a Presidential nominee. In addition to being a nice guy, which he is, you have to have fangs and be ready to use them. I don't see that in Bill Frist.

To: Miss Marple; All

It was reported on Brit Humes show tonight that Harry Reid has been going around Frist and talking to the WH aides directly trying to cut a deal.

Apparently the Dims are trying to get the WH to cancel some of the nominees the Dims have strongest objections to (ie the real conservatives) in exchange for the Dims allowing certain others they have less objections to be voted thru.

That report stated the WH keeps referring them back to Frist. And I'd better stop my comments at this point.

Sounds like the RATS are getting worried about the "Constitutional" Option.

He was hand-picked as Senate Majority leader. At the time I also thought it was a good choice. He has failed.

Bush isn't always correct in his choices, and Frist needs to retire and do heart surgeries, which I am sure he is good at.

I will support Frist on whatever stand he takes (wimping out is not a stand) but his failure to grab the high ground and get the job done means to me that as a candidate he would not be effective.

Good people can be incompetent at their jobs, and I believe Frist is one such person.

The White House is being smart in not negotiating with Reid. If they did so, they would be painted as undercutting their own people.

Regardless of how weak Frist is, it is better to make Reid deal with him rather than the White House cutting him off.

It's the Peter Principle or whatever you call it: people rise to their level of incompetence. Frist's was as Majority Leader.

Yep. It's a shame, because he looked like he had promise.

Well, he will be Majority Leader until the end of the session. We just have to figure out how to prop him up, instill some spine, and get him to do what we want.

Personally, I think Mitch McConnell or Jim Inhofe would be much better at this, but they would have to get the votes of the weenies.

The one sure way to check the ability and effectiveness of a GOP Majority Leader in either the House or Senate is to check on how much the RATS and MSM hate them. Look at what they're trying to do to Tom DeLay. Not a peep about Bill Frist.

Yes I agree. It was an interesting report and one I hadn't already read about on FR. Might have been posted here and I just missed it though.

You are quite right. What this also shows me is that Trent Lott was a better Majority Leader than I thought.

I think all of us can learn a lesson from this episode. We don't know all the machinations that go on in the Senate, and what we think will be effective is not necessarily the right answer.

I don't really think Lott was all that great a majority leader, but the RATS and MSM used his tribute to Strom Thurmond to exact a pound of flesh after the 2002 elections.
