It's been a blast but it's time to say goodbye (GOPcap's opus)
4/20/04 | me

Posted on 04/20/2005 9:22:15 AM PDT by GOPcapitalist

I'll keep this short and simple. After six years of membership on FR I've decided to resign from the forum today. I'll keep checking my freepmail for a few days and wind down my posts here, so if any of you wish to contact me please do so there and I will provide you with a means to do so. I hope to continue future posting activities elsewhere - perhaps a blog - but only time will tell.

It's truly been a blast and left me with many fond memories, but all good things had to come to an end. My favorites comprise a long list, the most noted being the exposition of Rathergate, leading freeps of Algore in the 2000 recounts, protesting Hildebeast's book tour, and giving her impeached husband a freeper's welcome to Texas on several of his visits. Thank you to all who made these events fun and entertaining. Unfortunately the past few months have made it clear to me that FR and I are drifting apart on key issues of conservatism. I'll spare the details, pausing only to state that it isn't just the usuals like illegal immigration, but also things like religion, the culture of political correctness, an overall decline in reasoned civil conversation that used to flourish here, and the purposes and uses of the site in general. More concerning, for the past few months I have been unable to even obtain rational discourse and commentary on many routine threads and issues without being personally maligned and attacked - many times out of the blue and on topics unrelated to the given thread - by a small, petty-minded, and vitriolic group of posters who conduct themselves in a manner unbefitting of what this forum used to be when I joined in 1999, and do so with apparent impunity.

I also find that I simply don't have the time to post as much as I once did, and regrettably so.

I'll leave it at that, as my fond memories outweigh the unpleasant ones. A time arises when parting courses on friendly terms is best before something less desirable arises. Therefore I have volunteered my resignation. To everyone who has made my FR experience enjoyable, I thank you and wish you only the best.

"That's easy - Greer should have allowed oral hydration."

He couldn't. He rejected it because the motion was filed as part of an appeal for experimental procedures, which had already been rejected by the court. It's in the second paragraph of the order.

The bottom line is that the motion to allow oral hydration was improperly filed. That's not the judge's fault, no matter how much you want to blame him.

Re-read the first paragraph. The petition was for food and water by natural means. Greer *decided* (after reviewing 'portions' of statements by doctors) that it was 'part and parcel' of a prior petition and not to do 'indirectly what it has not done directly.' It is not surprising that the arguments for food and water as a trial are the same for food and water for comfort.

Greer was not impotent. He intended to cause the death of a woman whose intentions he had determined.

And so he and the entire Judiciary system in Florida murdered a woman and much of my faith in our government.

"by a small, petty-minded, and vitriolic group of posters who conduct themselves in a manner unbefitting of what this forum used to be"

Oh geez, not another one! What the hell is wrong with you old timers? Do you really have to have your cake and eat it too? For crimanny sakes, do you really think your opinions mean so much to the rest of us that we can't do without you?

Talk about self appointed important, what the hell is your problem?

Life is a struggle, period. It's not supposed to get easier, it's supposed to get more difficult, if you strive to educate yourself. It is very easy to be ignorant. What the hell did you think, this was going to turn into your own personal forum? If you can't understand that it takes all of us to make a whole, then perhaps it is better that you leave.

Just by the pure fact that the older this forum gets and the more members it accumulates should be enough to make you understand that opinions will differ greatly. I, myself believe we still have basic conservative values to discuss and promote. So what if you get burned a little on the way. Did you think yours was the only opinion that mattered? I would hope no one here is that naive.

I agree that there are certain individuals, that it appears their only purpose in on this forum is to piss on everyone else's cornflakes, but surely that should not stifle your goals or your intellect in the grand scheme of life. After all, we are only here but an instant, stop thinking you are so important that the world cannot get by without your 2 cents worth. More than likely we need your input. Tuck your ego back into your shorts and lets get on with it.

It seems to me you are taking the easy way out by leaving and shucking your responsibilities to your peers. Giving up is always easier to do than standing and taking the flack. Are you really going to take these idiots to heart? Personally I expect more from my fellow FReepers.

Of course this is only my opinion and I could be wrong, but at least I will fight for it instead of turning tail and running. If your feelings get hurt that easily, then perhaps you were in the wrong place to start with.

So you deny that she verbally expressed to at least three people on three separate occassions a desire not to live in a brain damaged state, with no hope of recovery, being kept alive solely by artificial means?

Are you saying that these three individuals conspired to intentionally lie under oath, subject to a penalty of perjury?

Are you saying that the judge did NOT have "clear and convincing" evidence as to Terri's wishes, and just made up the court order out of thin air?

Are you saying that Judge Greer conspired with the rest of the Florida judiciary to murder Terri Schiavo?

Lastly, do you have any proof whatsoever to back up any of your assertions?

"I have never known you to be a quitter, to walk away when things got tough."

This says it all! You can't let the few take over and annihilate what the many have started. Isn't that exactly what the DumboCrats are trying to shove down our throats? The few dictating to the many? We will never win if we are willing to play the same game.............

There are a few people on FR who post abusive replies from time to time. Not very many, but it only takes a few to create an overall bad impression. But then, if you really get your feelings hurt, I see that there is a feature called "Report Abuse". I assume the Moderator would take some action if it is indeed over the line.

I think you will regret your decision in a few months.

In my opinion, given that this was NOT a case of euthanasia,

Since you brought it up, in my opinion it was murder.

Has anybody been keeping stats? I'm curious how many of the opus writers have been people who supported pulling Schiavo's feeding tube, and how many were against it.

"So if you don't like something you can just leave, instead of staying around and trying to make it better?

I will never, NEVER understand that mentality."

Now, doesn't that make a hell of lot more sense than turning tail?

If I have anything to do with it, it will become what it was meant for it to be. I suggest if you run into probs like what is being discussed here, we go after the no-minds until they relent. Perhaps the Mods could take a little more interest in those that seem to develop this pattern. I have only been here 6 months and already I could come up with a few "patterned" posters myself.

Still I don't understand the philosophy of going belly up. That never solves anything and gives the impression of weakness, which is the opposite of what we stand for.

I could see how some of the comments made on different topics on FR could hurt. There appear to be quite a number of "perfect" people on FR who've never made any mistakes and have always led an exemplary life. Then there are some of them who've been darned lucky to not have to face some of the crisis's some of the others of us have so they have no clue and can only look down their noses at choices we might have been forced into or chosen.

There's never been a day in my life that I woke up and made the decision I was going to make mistakes, be mean, hurt people deliberately, etc. I've always done the best I could given the circumstances at the time.

You and I may not share the same opinions on certain topics but I'd like to offer my hand in friendship to you.

I've been around for about 4-5 years (before 9-11) and I must say... I won't let the newbies touch me.... I just don't care enough about what they say.

I read about your departure from FR on another forum, so I thought I'd drop by & wish you fair winds & a following sea.

I don't post much these days, probably for a lot of the same reasons you're pulling the plug...just browse a couple of forums looking for intel.

Don't worry about getting bored, the next couple of years should create enough excitement to keep you busy just trying to navigate the coming storm ;-)
