If you think running Windows is like living in Crack Alley with no lockable doors, but "need" Windows to run different applications, you should try Win4Lin. If you have a licensed version(?!) of Windows xp or 2000pro, you can run a windows "session" within Linux.

VM ware allowed one to do this before, but it was close to 300 dollars. You can download this for less than a hundred. My copy installed nicely. So far, it beats crossover office. If there is interest in the thread, I will post any problems I have tweaking it.

without surrendering control to the Windows guest operating system.

MSoft will look for a way to "break" this feature so that the user will have fits trying to make this work.

The software world is littered with such carcasses.

Okay, maybe I'm a little cynical. I hope this really works.

I was just discussing my interest in getting away from Windows last week with our office computers.

Windows and her applications tends to be full of bloatware. Seriously, what is the difference in Money FSB 2004 and Money FSB 2005 code other than different graphics and another $100 per license upgrade?

Let us know how stable it is and isn't there a MS Office-like application available as well?

I run VMWare for those rare occasions. It works well. I've never tried Win4Lin.

$100 on top of the cost of a Windows license doesn't sound like much of a bargain. I am running Microsoft Office and Lotus Notes (including Designer and Administrator clients) with Crossover Office, which costs $40 and requires no Microsoft license.

I am fairly new here, but is pasting promotional materials from a website for a commercial product allowed here?
