"Svorsk" baby boom
While Norway may be experiencing a swell of national pride and heightened rivalry in the centennial year of independence from Sweden, the citizenry have warmer feelings that ever.
The number of children born to Swedish-Norwegian (svensk-norsk or "svorsk") couples has risen 128 percent from 1990 to 2004, according to figures Statistics Norway (SSB) has prepared for newspaper VG.
At the beginning of 2005 there were 24,648 persons in Norway who were the result of a union between a Norwegian and a Swede, and 12,369 of these were under the age of 18.
In 1990 the comparable figures were 10,794 and 7,201. There were no figures for the number of 'svorsk' offspring living in Sweden.
Lars Østby, SSB researcher and demographer, believes the main reason is easy access to jobs in Norway for Swedes. The Nordic region has had a common labor market and no need for passports since 1954.
Atleast two guys I know that is around my age has a Swedish girlfriend. I surely want one to. I think most Norwegians like Swedish girls a lot. I tell you there will be more Svorsk babys
Well, given the birth-rate, which is way too low, we have the impression that Norwegian males are generally impotent or something, or awkward with women.
Not good for the reputation of Norway, and the sooner there's more Norwegian infants, the sooner that impression will go away.
The deal is, "population" and "wealth" have very little relationship with each other, no matter what the population controllists insist.
When I was in Russia and Ukraine--and all that I have read since then--the population was (and is) constantly dropping, dropping dramatically.....and at the same time there has been no corresponding increase in the general prosperity (i.e., fewer people having more "resources" does not necessarily mean it happens).
I tell you average white birth rate in the states is close to the same as in Norway. 1,8
Given the explosive Muslim demographics in Europe this is great news.
Thanks for the ping and the good news article, franksolich. And that gorgeous picture...I'm ON that boat RIGHT now. Sigh. Soon.
