It was a great game. Renteria has finally arrived.

It was a great game. Renteria has finally arrived. I hope, because he had me missing Orlando Cabrera something fierce.
To: Hemingway's Ghost
I liked Cabrera but Renteria is a better player.

It looked to me like a drunken fan was trying to scoop up the ball. I agree.
He wasn't even LOOKING at Sheff when he took the "swipe". He was looking down to his left along the wall.
But he still deserves an azz-beating for nearly turning Varitek's triple into a ground rule double, and costing the Sox a run!

"How much of a beating must someone take before they're allowed to defend themselves? Sheffield did nothing wrong here. He would have been perfectly justified in jumping into the stands and flattening this guy. The police should have arrested the guy and left him in the cells overnight." Totally agree. Sheff was justified, ESPECIALLY since the guy wasn't arrested. I mean, what if the guy had really connected on his punch and given Sheffield a neck injury or something? It could happen. When the "authorities" don't take action, sometimes individuals have to take matters into their own hands.

That was my thought when the ball went into the corner. Don't touch the damn ball!!
To: bikepacker67
If Johnny took steroids it wouldn't be a problem but long hair?! No chance.
To: subterfuge
mean, what if the guy had really connected on his punch Ohh STOP IT!
Either you didn't SEE the play, or your definition of throwing a punch is that of a melodramatic teenage girl.

I'm surprised that Torre didn't argue for interference. By all rights, Tek should have been at 2nd, and that 2nd run scored on the play erased with the runner put back on third.

Just wait until the Red Sox get to Yankee stadium next month...Yankee fans do not forget! BTW, those two runs should have been forfeited! FANS CAN NOT GET IN THE WAY OF THE GAME!

When the ball rattles around in that area of right field, the result is often a triple. It's up to the ump's discretion in any event.

Didn't he also say that his favorite current Sox player was "Manny Rodriguez"?

I don't think so. It's up to umpires to determine whether or not the fan's interference allowed the runners to advance. Tek would have had a triple regardless.
To: mainepatsfan
Tek would have had a triple regardless That's true... that corner of Fenway is brutal!

Many right fielders misplay a ball down in that corner. Sheffield took a bad angle that let the ball roll down into the corner.
To: Lucky2
Yes we know how classy Yankee fans can be after a call goes against them.
To: Irontank
Didn't he also say that his favorite current Sox player was "Manny Rodriguez"? He was waxing eloquent on the BoSox, and he mentioned someone called "Manny Ortess."
To: Hemingway's Ghost
Didn't he pronounce Ortiz's name as "Ortez"?
To: Libertarian4Bush
LOL!
Hey, btw, I saw an interview on ESPN last night with T. Owens. He's a very nice guy.
