The scanner on hand works fine... once you've pummeled it into submission.

haha! :)

This new thing I've got is an HP Scanjet 3970.

It's my FIRST scanner.

I saw it (and others) at Fry's Electronics and Wal-Mart.

Since I knew ZERO about scanners, I Google Searched to see what other folks thought about it BEFORE I bought it. It was $99 at Wal-Mart. (It was $100.00 at the Fry's Electronics in Garland/Dallas).

I found some reviews on it in my Google Search. Some were rating it real high and some in the middle and some really low. Being an HP product, I was surprised to see a number of low ratings. (I have an HP 4L Laserjet printer I bought in 1993 that has required ZERO maintenance and just keeps on a hummin'!)

So I made sure to read several of the reviews by folks that were low ballin' this thing. When I read their reviews, I found that they all pretty much talked GOOD about the scanner, but still rated it low. I thought that was strange. But since they couldn't really find any logical BAD thing to say in the review, I felt pretty good about it.

One of the guys high rating it said that if folks will set the scanner up just like the instructions SAY to do, it works really GREAT and is a great scanner, especially for the PRICE.

I went to Wal-Mart, set it up per the instructions and he was right. It's GREAT! :)

That's the scanner I have..
It doesn't like to scan any of my sketches, nor does it like to scan at the settings I've told it to.
It also saves the image to whatever folder it feels like rather than letting me specify where I want them saved to.
Sometimes it will save them into it's slideshow 'scanned images' place, other times it will save it in another place.

And apparently there is nothing wrong with it or it's program!

Of course, it may just be this particular scanner and only this scanner.
My first scanner was a Umax.
Unfortunately, it was rather small, and is not WinXP compatible.
