Gun Show How-to's (vanity)

I am planning to attend a gun show in San Jose this weekend and have never been to one. What goes on there? Can you buy a pistol and leave with it? I am completely in the dark about what to expect. Any help would be much appreciated.

Gun shows are a great place to shoot the sh@t or have sausage on a stick but a reliable gun dealer or even manufacturer's websites are better places to buy. JMHO

Yeah, you've been there.

I only go to the local shows when I want to stock up on beef jerkey and look at completely non-functional knives.

Thanks to all for your input! I have a better idea of what to expect. Do folks really bring their guns to trade, and walk around with them over their shoulders and such?

"A prior year's hunting license doesn't work anymore ?"

Sure it does. But I'm assuming the author is a newbie as someone with a hunting license would likely know these things.

Thanks for the confirmation.
It's been a few years since I bought a pistol.
It's good to know my 1973 license will still work. ;-)

I'm sure if CCCnative took anything back into California he would be obliged to register it.

You're right, but it depends. Some stuff at Reno gun shows are legal to possess in California, some not. But the great experience of seeing so much cool stuff that isn't allowed in California makes the trip worth it by itself. Plus the drive over the Sierra's and Donner Summit is a blast any time of year.

I came across a California that has a Nevadian buy alot of guns for him in Nevada.

What is the Californian trying to circumvent in CA?

I have no idea. Everything I own is California legal. Many people go for the cheaper prices on ammo, scopes, gear, etc. I don't know of anyone who has brought back guns that are illegal to possess in California. I suppose it may be done, but it's not too smart.

Exactly my point. We should be cautious about recommending to anonymous newbies that they go to other states to buy guns. We don't need FR to look like it's advocating skirting the law.

The 7-day run-it-through-a-dealer-and-get-it-registered-by-the-state laws. And the following bans - no standard cap magazines, no semiauto rifles, no semiauto shotguns, no weapon that hasn't been approved by the AG's office, etc, etc,

If you want to buy a gun in CA, I have a suggestion. Move to another state.

Oh, and don't move back. CA is a hellhole. Leave immediately.
