well, you might suggest why you think it is horrible, and how it is worse than what was before. In short...make a point.

Well, no, you aren't. At least I don't think so, but I'm making some assumptions.

To keep all kids at the same speed, means slowing down the quick and the average to stay back with the slow.
It seemed obvious to me in my title...I'm sorry if I overshot!

It's definitely better than how the incompetent teachers just keep shuffling uneducated students from grade to grade while collecting their checks. In this way, it is ensured that everyone is educated when they leave their grade.

The teachers don't like it, therefore they drag everyone down to the lcd. Just like they did before NCLB. The whole point of NCLB was trying to get teachers to reach for the HCD. Something they used to do before pc, liberalism, free love, no red pens et al. Until you change the bureaucracy of teachers, nothing will change. I suggest homeschooling.

Don't you see that it means that we have to slow down others to wait for the slow?

Wow. Not all teachers are liberal swine. You might want to encourage conservatives into the profession. That's what the liberals did in the '60's.

Yeah, it's bad. But I think the alternative is worse. Besides, it's better off to homeschool. If I ever have young'uns that's what I'd do. I wish Dubya would run the NEA scum right out of town and abolish the Dept. of Ed. But at least he's trying to make sure that kids come out smart and unindoctrinated in the wiles of Marxism.

Agreed. We have to take everything back the same way they did, one piece at a time.

Just remember the NEA doesn't speak for every teacher. Many consider the NEA as something a whole lot less than desirable. And there are many teachers who care about the education of their students. School boards need more conservative members which in turn will influence administrators in the districts.

I'm afraid that NCLB put us deeper in the mire. Thicker bureaucracy means more places to hide corruption.

I hope not. Dubya wants accountability and results. Everything I know about him shows me that he says what he means and means what he says. There isn't a deceitful bone in his body. Does that mean he can make a mistake? Absolutely. And that might be the biggest problem with the NCLB, that it's a mistake. But I really don't think it can be any worse than the status quo. Plus, why do the libs scream and whine about it if it's going to have zero effect or make it even easier to brainwash the children and hide their activities?

Heh. The Left can't stand to be challenged. If there is one conservative left in the entire world, they'll still scream and whine about "equal time" while finding away to quash him.

According to the guidelines as issued, nearly all schools will be failing by 2014. Currently, many top notch, extremely, unbelievably high scoring schools are "failing" because a couple of kids in some obscure category in a super-subgroup (there are literally dozens of these "minority" groups) did not take the test. Naturally this was because some of the parents opted them out of test, which is their option under the law. This automatically triggers lots of penalties that are punishing these top performing schools.
No child left behind is an example of well intentioned government meddling turning the public desire for action into just another expensive but completely unfunded federal mandate.
On a day to day basis in the classroom, the law forces teachers to focus nearly all resources low performing students. Many of these students simply do not have the capabilities to perform at the mandated levels. In the meantime, top performing students are denied attention and resources.
This originally bipartisan proposal has gone seriously awry. The Dem sponsors, such as ultra lib. Bay Area Rep. George Miller (D-CA) are already trying to back away from this insane program.
This was an attempt to try to bring federal performance standards to our education system by trying to apply accountability to unresponsive state education bureaucrats. Unfortunately, it has been a colossal failure. It's time to scrub the system, and look at some more enlightened proposals.

Absolutely. And that might be the biggest problem with the NCLB, that it's a mistake.Public education is a mistake, period. But anything that gets the teachers' union scum this riled can't be all bad.
