Synopsis:
John Constantine has been to hell and back.
Born with a gift he didnt want, the ability to clearly recognize the half-breed angels and demons that walk the earth in human skin, Constantine (KEANU REEVES) was driven to take his own life to escape the tormenting clarity of his vision. But he failed. Resuscitated against his will, he found himself cast back into the land of the living. Now, marked as an attempted suicide with a temporary lease on life, he patrols the earthly border between heaven and hell, hoping in vain to earn his way to salvation by sending the devils foot soldiers back to the depths.

Didn't this already go to DVD and out of theaters?
Looks cool, I'd like to see it.
It wasn't a bad flick. The angel Gabriel was portrayed as an androgenous being that -- well, I won't ruin it.
Worth a viewing, at any rate.
Yes, mam, I saw it too. I like action flicks, saw the previews, and went alone. (My wife refused to go.)
So, I was disappointed at the lack of enough action, and I thought the Christian themes were set in such a fantasy as to establish only a flimsy spiderweb of a distortion of "things Christian".
I just read a few of the reviews, and they are all different, and all overdone, according to each reviewer's take.
I'm not a student of the Bible, but isn't Gabriel the one who blows the horn and has a position at the gates of Heaven? (OK, duh! Let me know.)
The Gabriel in the movie was nothing like that.
VHS/DVD release date is 6/7/2005. It may still be playing in second tier theaters.
I think the Pope's passing led to my post. I am intrigued by the movie, because it displays a view of Heaven and Hell not as places, but as alternate planes of existence, hidden from our view, characterized by the presence or absence of God. Also, in Islam: "The Qur'an is Allah's words, which were revealed to Mohammad over 23 years through the Angle Gabriel." Gabriel is often portrayed in stories as a somewhat fallen angel, played with relish by Christopher Walken in The Prophecy films.
Looks like a kick-ass movie with great special effects.
Although I don't expect it to follow scripture and/or Church traditions and teachings, I'd still like to see it.
After all, we can't rely on Hollywood to teach us anything, just entertain. I wish more people could understand that.
I have one of those type of theaters near me and will check it out.
Next week I will check out Sin City which looks very much like a gothic Pulp Fiction.
Made over $70 million so far. Not exactly a flop.
Hi, I didn't make light of the quality of the picture or it's earnings. I simply had asked if that picture hadn't already run it's course and made it's way to DVD?
Think about it, this thread was just started and I think the movie is almost off of the movie circuit. The timing is bazaar.
